President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

I do hope you listened to the president's speech with an OPEN mind. IF you are so opposed to the guest worker program...what exactly is your solution?

And, in addition to your excellent points on what would happen if a Dim became President in 2008....we could also look forward to consulting foreign countries when making our laws and having the UN dictate our policies (especially if ole Bill is Sec Gen of the UN) and George Soros would urge legalization of ALL drugs, and, of course, the ACLU and their liberal friends would prohibit any reference to GOD....so IN GOD WE TRUST is gone...and so on. Speaking of GOD, we sure need HIS help!

Bush's speech, on the other hand, is entirely principled and has nothing to do with politics.

ROTFLMAO, TSR!!!
What a sad night for those of us who voted for him twice, and hung on for more than 4 years.

I'm just walking in the door. Anybody want to to suggest the definitive summary post or story?

Temporary guest workers, tamper-proof biometric IDs to make it easier to filter out troublemakers and bust employers who don't care who they employ, no automatic citizenship, illegals go to the back of the line and may NEVER acquire citizenship. Only the most dedicated, law-abiding, and hardworking who are willing to assimilate completely will become citizens. The rest go home.

I can accept that.

I'm going to vote GOP this year and continue to do so. What the alternatives? The Constitution Party who wants us to cut and run from the War on Terror? Nope.. The Libertarian Party who wants us to cut an run from the War on Terror? Nope..

"You would think that Carl Rove or Tony Snowe would have been intelligent enough to say, "Uhm, M-m-m-mister President? Our support is waning and the 27% that are left liking us are the Bushbots from FreeRepublic.com that would still love us no matter how liberal we become.""

You disparage Republicans, Tony Snow, The President of the United States, and FreeRepublic all in one short paragraph.

Damn, the liberal pukes will be proud of you!

You are correct. It's one of the reasons why many true conservatives are no longer posting here.

I'm trying to remember the last time I saw such comprehensive, utter idiocy rolled up into such a concise thread. I can see why you don't come around here much, Class of '98er. Back to your forum o' misery!

Amen. I wish that the COnservatives that are complaining would get on board. Conservatives need to be looking at the tea leaves here. Bush doesnt need all the Republicans to get this passed in the House. The Dems will break toward the Bush plan having the "tancredo/King faction on the outside looking in when this gets passed. That would be a shame necause even though I disagree with the House bill I am not opposed to all it its ideas or all the sentiments behind it. It would be good to have as much conservative input in this bill as possible. The chances of a bill passing Congress I think is 50/50. This is a very dangerous game of political chicken when a part of the party refuses to compromise and the result might be that many of their good ideas will not be included.

I had friends in college in the mid-1980's who earned their tuition doing bent-back strawberry picking in the summertime; every last one of them as white as William Wallace's Hibernian arse.

Still, there's a buncha Ivory Tower types around here keep insisting such things don't happen, and try to call "BS" on anyone who says otherwise. Well, I know the real truth and it has nothing whatsoever to do with any mythological "job Americans won't do".

Armed camp? Pretty much, yeah. When it comes to the borders. Islamic facist nazi terorists want to kill us all, even liberal democrats, and the illegal immigrants are a perfect way to them to sneak into this country with chem, bio, or nuclear weapons. So yes, the border should be handled like an armed camp, walls, barbed wire and all. If people can't obey our laws and not enter this country unless it's legally, then they have no business being here, and should be treated like the criminals they are.
