Working Moms Healthier, Thinner Than Stay at Homes

Women who juggle career and family tend to be thinner and healthier as they approach midlife than long-term stay-at-home moms, a new study suggests.

Researchers tracked the health of a group of British women from their mid-20s to their mid-50s and found that full-time homemakers were the most likely to be obese in their sixth decade.

Women in long-term relationships who had raised kids while they held jobs outside the home were least likely to be overweight, and they also reported being in better overall health.

That's a beautiful tribute to your mother. Thank you for sharing that.

Oh Laz, that is terrible!!!! I would much rather for her to be a little overweight than extremely underweight.

But you are right, she has self-discipline, the discipline not to eat!...:)

Good grief! Those poor ladies, I hate that they starve themselves like that. And for what, really? Eat a little more, be happy, life is to short to starve oneself like that.

Don't let strangers on a forum get to you.

Last week we buried my aunt. When she was in her twenties she left her physically abusive husband and moved away with her 2 young children.
She hired a live in nanny/housekeeper and worked for many years as an anesthesiologist. She then bought a large home and ran her own nursing home. After that she became a successful real estate broker.

It was difficult for her to do all that on her own, but she had a way of succeeding at whatever she did.

The world would be a boring place if everyone lived their lives according to a prescribed formula.

You definitely know your mother much better than any of us.

The one on the left is hot. The fatty on the right needs to lay off the Sarah Lee, though.

He didn't "get to" me; I thought he was kind of a cartoon, but there are limited people out there who can't deal with people who live differently. Fortunately, we don't need their permission or approval to live the lives we wish.

I always thought that was rather American, myself. :)

It's nice to see such happy faces; I had been under the impression that they didn't schedule recreational time at Bergen-Belsen. :)

LOL. Tatoo threads are right up there with public breastfeeding threads in viciousness.

Can you imagine the reaction if a woman with tatooed breasts was caught pbf by one of the residents cranks?

I freelanced from home and raised my son. i have worked with a lot of women who had a kid and were back on the job after 3 months. they are not mothers. it's one or the other. there is so much to raising a kid, and not to see your kid take their first steps, their first words, it's their loss. i see what women go through, being a mom is the toughest job in the world and most of the women weren't qualified for the office job. Many got pregnant just so they wouldn't lose their job.

So it aint envy or defensiveness, if you are going to have a kid stay home and take care of it, don't be so selfish.
