BUSH: WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS
NY Post ^ | 5/15/06

Posted on 05/15/2006 5:48:16 AM PDT by areafiftyone

May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.

The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.

Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.

She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

Where did this idea come from, that we must round them up all at once? 11 million?! Do you know how many buses that will take?! blah blah blah...

We CAN and SHOULD deport every single illegal we stumble on, even if it takes years.

You just go from thread to thread spouting you hate don't you?

Might be more constructive if you could come up with several alternatives to the problem.

If we can fight the war on terror, we can boot 11 million out.

It's all about the votes and nothing else with them.

To actually go out and attempt to boot the 11-12-15-18 whatever million illegals is not going to work. To effectively accomplish that mission there would have to be an expansion of government so vast that the police state that many on FR fear will become a reality.

Government comes into your business looking for illegals. Are they just going to focus on the Spanish looking ones or everyone? And, once inside my records, what else are they going to look around for?

Government come into your homes looking for illegals. Anyone want that to become a reality?

Plus, government profiling the Spanish community will erode any gains that the Republicans have made with that bloc. You can pretty much guarantee that the WH, Senate and Congress will go Democrat and you can forget any further border enforcement.

I don't like giving people a free pass on this but unless someone can come up with a viable solution I don't see us doing a massive deportation.

Will we deport any illegal alien after a date certain, when we do not even know when the aliens who are here have arrived in the first place?

Sounds like Tony Snow either didn't tell him how we feel... or he got blown-off after telling him. A re-wrapping of the same sh-t sandwich ain't 'gonna fly.

President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

No it's not. Two thoughts, here.

All that is required is the will. If he is saying that we don't have the means, then he is not much use as a leader.

If he means that he can't figure out how to do it, he should find someone who can. And so should we, his employers.

I don't think he yet understands the importance of the issue and the depth of anger among American citizens. By finding a solution acceptable to the American taxpayer-citizen, he may be avoiding a civil war.

Well, if we can't deport them, we can't fight terrorism, can't defend our border, can't balance the budget, can't veto a spending bill, can't win in Iraq, can't have a marriage amendment to the Constitution.............

Makes sense to me he should resign and let someone actually lead our nation.

I don't know if there is one out there for it.
***

Count me as one.

However, even more important to me is going to be...what is will he and Congress do to prevent more illegals from coming in here? And what is going to be done to beef up INS staff and capabilities to for example, detect and deport those who are here on expired visas? From what I understand, the 9-11 hijackers were here on expired visas. It's not just a matter of illegals coming over from Mexico. The fact of the matter is that our entire immigration system is in the dumpster. It is completely ineffective. But I doubt the President or anyone else in government is going to have the balls to actually do what has to be done.

It's probably true that it's unrealistic to forcibly deport 12-20 million illegal aliens, but it may well be possible to incentivize their departure (and, for some/many of them, a means of legal re-entry).

Carrot and stick, you know? The stick is border enforcement, the carrot could be the possibility of legal status, but only after first returning home, to make it fair to law abiding people who would also like to migrate.

I don't see anything wrong with increased legal immigration so long as the people coming here are willing to work and take care of themselves. It's only when they break the law, or want to spend my money that I have a problem with them.

Careful what you wish for.

Tonight, he either reaffirms his proposal of January, 2004, or he caves to the Senate and endangers the Republican Party.

If President Bush is going to deploy the National Guard purely for political reasons just so that he can sell the Kennedy amnesty scheme and keep his angry base quiet until after the November elections (to soon after remove the troops) then he will seriously abuse his power and misuse our troops. I can't believe that he would do this. I don't want to believe that he would do this. He better not do this. But it looks like he is going to do this.

Agreed.

FINE (IMPRISON repeat offenders) EMPLOYERS

BUILD A WALL

GRANT GUEST WORKERS after THE ABOVE TWO

NO CITIZENSHIP - NO VOTING - TO AUTO CITIZENSHIP TO BABIES BORN HERE.

These steps would take care of the problem.
