I am still wondering why we have "Pre-K". Why are people so eager to make their children leave their homes while they are still practically babies? I remember when kindergarten wasn't required, and if your child attended it was really for "fun" rather than serious education. Are these additional two years of education producing improved graduates at the high school level?

Agree, agree, agree. And to answer your last question, I sincerely doubt it.

I did not attend pre-K (or even 'K' for that matter), and somehow managed to graduate with honors (from both high school & college). I'm not saying this to brag (truly), but rather to point out that children can and do succeed without pre-K, or pre-pre-K, or who-knows-what.

Parents shouldn't be so eager to relinquish their children to the public school system, and kids really need to time to be 'just kids' ... childhood has become almost nonexistent in today's world.

Why are you raising an alarm about nothing? This is simply a program to give the little ones who don't speak English a leg up for when real learning starts. Do you want dual language classes instead of English only?

Why does your 4 yo niece want to be in pre K? Or does she? She should be at home with Mom learning what Moms teach their four year olds.

You are raising a ruckus over nothing. Why?

Gosh, that's a pretty label.

Doesn't mean anything, but it's still a pretty diagram for abureacrat to get paid making.

Last time I checked, the U.S.A. does not have an official language, english or otherwise.

Don't know which versions you have read but those of our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America that I've perused were in English.

Ah, I know what that is. It's obviously the Union Label. Remember the little ditty, "Look for the Union Label"?

Yes, they were written in English, but do either of those documents state that a child, or any other citizen, for that matter, must speak english in order to be entitled to the same rights as any other?

"Like it or not, children born in this country are entitled to an education, no matter what language their parents speak at home. I cannot believe that you would prefer these same children grow up to be unproductive welfare recipients. Last time I checked, the U.S.A. does not have an official language, english or otherwise."

Do you honestly believe that these "LEP" children are going to be made up of legal citizens? Two years ago, the stats were something like 3.5 million Texas residents were born outside of the U.S. At least a third of them are *illegally in the United States*.

Good grief.

Yes, it sucks that your taxes have to pay for something of which you are forbidden to partake but this is a blessing in disguise. Your niece will fare much better at home with one-on-one instruction.

I bought my house patrly based upon the new elementary school to be built a year later. So, three years later, my son is ready for kindergarten, and the school is "full". He'd have to go to school in another neighborhood.

We homeschool now.

Years ago when I registered my stepson for the 4th grade I was asked what is spoken in my house. My reply was English and Spanish. The principal asked what my stepson spoke. I informed him English was his language. He then informed me that if I filled out the form saying both languages were spoken in my house they would have to take him and test him for English proficiency. I quickly changed the form.

PS
He is now protecting our great nation. Second tour in Iraq. Fourth ID. His Spanish is getting better.

Contrary to popular thought, preK is not necessary.

Yes, I actually do believe that the vast majority of 4 year olds trying to enter pre-k here in Texas are legal citizens of this country. You have to present both an original legal birth certificate AND a legal original social security card in order to enroll in school here.

All it takes to become a citizen is to be born here. It doesn't matter whether your parents are legally here or not. If you are born here, you are a citizen here, and if you are a citizen, you are entitled to be educated here.

Are you honestly saying that you believe 3-4-5 year olds are sneaking across the border on their own to steal a "real American" baby's education?

good grief, for real, omg.

Not to worry, it will just get worse for your niece and her generation of gringos.

Unless the recent defeat of god-like football coach Tom Osborne in Nebraska's
Republican gubernatorial primary is a sign that US citizens might just
be ready to say "enough already!".
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1632158/posts
Osborne was all for saving money by consolidating school districts
AND giving out money via in-state tuition for the children of ILLEGALS
at their state universities/colleges.

Haven't heard about the story? Probably NOT the story the MSM wanted to
lead the news...

The preK advocates in FL managed to get a ruling a couple of years ago that made preK mandatory for any child "in the system." They hoodwinked and maneuvered using a case where a child was injured or murdered (I can't remember), saying "if she had been in preK, she would be not injured/alive today." They use any in they can grab because, of course, their intention is to make preK mandatory for all children in this country. Get the kids away from the parents asap.

Funny thing there DG. Neither one of those documents mention 'public education' once.

My sister has a different view on preschool than I do. I'm trying to be of help to her without being judgemental.

That said, I'm growing really tired of paying for our friends born south of the border, breaking into our country for free healthcare, schooling and the like. Americans keep footing the bill for illegals, and I for one am so fed up with it............my goodness.

As for this 4 year old wanting to be in school...I think that this is probably her one opportunity to see and play with other children her age. Again, she lives in the middle of nowhere.

And as for your opinion of 4 year olds staying home to learn from their mommies...let the illegals keep *their* kids at home. After all, who better to communicate with a SSO child than its SSO mama?
