Don't know which versions you have read but those of our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America that I've perused were in EnglishYes, they were written in English, but do either of those documents state that a child, or any other citizen, for that matter, must speak english in order to be entitled to the same rights as any other?

No, and I'd venture to guess that is because everyone spoke English. Heck, even the Indians learned to, without objection or mass demonstrations.
Tell me, DesertGirl, do you think English should be made the official language of the United States?
