President Bush's job approval rating has jumped six points in the wake of a media barrage of criticism over his administration's telephone records collection program.
A Harris Interactive poll published in The Wall Street Journal Online on Friday had Bushs approval rating at an all time low - with just 29 percent of Americans saying they liked the way he was handling his job.
The Harris survey polled 1,003 adults on May 5-8 - before USA Today frontpaged their report on the National Security Agency's telephone records collection program.
A Gallup survey released Friday yielded a similar result, with just 31 percent giving Bush a positive job approval rating.
A Newsweek survey released on Sunday, however, found that the president's approval numbers had improved markedly, with 35 percent saying he was doing a good job. Newsweek polled 1,007 adults on May 11 and 12 and asked specifically about the NSA's phone record collection program, which USA Today's first reported on Thursday, May 11.
An ABC/Washington Post poll taken in the immediate aftermath of the USA Today report found overwhelming support for the anti-terror program, with 63 percent of those surveyed saying they supported the records gathering operation. 44 percent said they "strongly" endorsed it, while just 35 percent were opposed to the operation.
65 percent of those surveyed told ABC/Post pollsters that it was more important to investigate potential terrorist threats "even if it intrudes on privacy."
The Newsweek survey, however, turned up a different results, with a slim majority of those surveyed - 53 percent - telling the magazine that the NSAs surveillance program "goes too far in invading peoples privacy."
my 10 year old sheltie is better than mclellan...
IMHO, in as much as this result is in any way related to reality, it is based on the rumors of Bush getting serious about border security. The 'Pubbies should take note. This is their way back from the brink. But if they put forward a window-dressing proposal, the voters will treat them very harshly.
Newsmax does if they need to make a story.
It works! If your wife drives your pickup, and then drives her Honda, she just increased the pickup fuel mpg by 50%! New math, bro. Gid wid it.
I wonder how many conservatives are here and how many are DU trolls.
Most are DU perverts. Its their game plan. Divide and conquer
Nah, I liked the wall in the recent King Kong movie more.
So are the media pollsters expecting the President to be re-elected again? LOL! He can only serve two terms.
love the nick...vos machs deer?
watch your spelling, missy...
My work place questions us about how we like our job, work environment etc. They'll ask the SAME question ten different ways and one can have a different answer each time. I don't even bother to participate.
Newsweek's readers actually have a lower IQ than ABC's audience?

You people complaining about our President need to look at the big picture, not just one issue.
Well, there's a surprise. Fake polls from fake journalists.
really?
The 2000 Rasmussan poll was before the DUI story was run by all the media and before the dirty trick of calling the election in Florida before the polls closed was played.
Also remember the media called all the Gore states early and didn't call the Bush states that were won by even greater margins...all to create dispair and nonvoting among potential Bush voters.
Plus all the Dem voter fraud, which I have a boatload of information on. They couldn't do as much voter fraud in 2004, which is why Rasmussan in 2004 was one of the most accurate.
Add it all together and Bush might have won by a lot more in 2000 as Rasmussan polled before all the s**t hit the fan.
I can send you some tinfoil if you're out.
When WILL the Left "get it?" ha ha ha - NSA "wire tapping." It's only NUMBERS & PATTERNS and the "project" of keeping America more safe...works!!! - this is such fun to watch...MSM helps again... ha ha ha
Perhaps you need a posse comitatus reality check before you watch the President's speech on illegal immigration this evening, so you won't be too disappointed if we don't have tanks at the border on Tuesday.
The most the President can do is to back any Governor who decides to call up THEIR National Guard troops to help at the border, and to encourage Congress to fund the call ups.
The President isn't allowed to do law enforcement with the U.S. military on American soil. And the circumstances for his declaring special circumstances for Nationalizing the Guard so they are under his direction are historically very limited.
It's difficult to imagine how President Bush can leapfrog over 100 years of tradition and law concerning Presidential restrictions regarding uses of military and Guard units on U.S. soil, so I'm not expecting a whole lot here.
Mostly I'm hoping for him to use the forum to inform most Americans what is going on and what new laws are needed, so they'll pressure Congress to pass those laws and the funding needed to enforce them.
