At least 30 people, including 19 policemen, have been killed in a spate of attacks in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Armed criminals targeted officers in 55 attacks in the early hours of Saturday. Authorities blamed the First Command of the Capital (PCC) faction.
The attacks may be in response to a transfer of PCC inmates, analysts say.
The attacks were followed by jail revolts, with 100 hostages being taken. The state governor insisted Sao Paulo would not bow to organised crime.

It's Bush's fault??
Our policies have failed???
Get off the bandwagon. Brazil's problems are Brazil's fault. Don't be an idiot and blame Bush on everything. Hell I couldn't take a $hit for days I guess it was Bush's or maybe Cheny's fault!!
He is joking!
You forgot your </sarcasm> switch and confused bubman.
LOL!
No, Brazil, while governed by a leftist, is actually trying to get its act together. Lula has been working very hard to bring not only stability but competitiveness and modernity to Brazil - so much so that the other leftists have been criticizing him!
If the thugs are striking back, that's only because they're beginning to feel the pinch.
Yes, I'm only joking.....LOL. I thought that was so evident, using borrowed MSM terms like quagmire and "Bush's fault", that I didn't need to put a /sarc at the end. You have to be constantly aware of possible sarcasm on this website...lol. I've been fooled a few times myself.
My sarcasm is intended to show how the problems we're facing in Iraq are not unique to Iraq and are faced by other countries too.
You are just too good! You got the tone of the lefties exactly right.
Sounds like Brazil is turning into "another Vietnam." Cindy Sheehan needs to shag her goatsmelling @$$ down there and get those people back in line instead of vacationing in Australia.
If more than 5 people die in Iraq on any given day it's a civil war.
I'd say let them kill each other/sarc
Sorry, defender, I didn't realize you were being sarcastic and I bit.
However, I would like to take this occasion to say that there's a lot of good stuff going on in Brazil right now. The fact that Chavez and Morales (who recently nationalized a Brazilian gas company) hate Lula is a good sign.
Were women and minorities hit hardest?
This is interesting. I thought that they were all the same camp in the anti-America-bloc and people sometimes say BRIC as if Brazil is among the Russia-PRC axis and India in league with them. Can you say more about what's happening? I know Argentina and Ecuador and Chile etc seem to be in bed with Chavez and Castro from a cursory glance as well. Is that perception true?
Sao Paulo has been a hotbed of crime for a long time. I would put it into the same category as NOLA before Katrina.
Thanks for posting. Interesting, informative, educational. Thanks to all contributors. I know zero about Brazilian politics.
cheers!
LOL! Kind of funny.
Brazil is doing good. Just hope the funny hat brigade in the north part of the continent doesn't start a real war.
