BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy. Stand Up For America ! |

That is what my friend told me....she was firm in saying it and I asked her if she was sure. Maybe there is a way to confirm it.
Well she does look mixed
I'll do some research and see if anything comes up. My friend grew up in El Paso and spent most of her life there. She is adamant about it.
Laura Bush was born on November 4, 1946, in Midland, Texas, to Harold and Jenna Welch.

Laura Welch (age 17) ran a stop sign in Midland while driving a Chevrolet sedan. She struck a Corvair sedan driven by an acquaintance, Michael Douglas (also age 17), who was killed. She and her passenger, Judy Dykes (also 17) were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. Welch was not charged.

An only child, Laura was born in Midland, Texas, in 1946 to Harold and Jenna Welch. Her father was a successful real estate developer while her mother kept the books. Harold Welch died in 1995 while Jenna Welch still lives in Midland.
(Other reports have her Dad as construction from home)

In the Senate, GOP leaders are hoping to pass a complete immigration reform bill by Wednesday. The passage of a Senate immigration bill will be a strong step, but the differences between the House version and the Senate version will make a compromise difficult.

Culberson Statement on President's Border Security and Immigration Address
I am deeply concerned that the President is still advocating a guest worker program that puts millions of illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship and does not require workers to return to their home countries before applying for a temporary visa. The House is unwavering in its position that we cannot even discuss a guest worker program until we have secured our borders.

Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Ky
I remain opposed to amnesty. Rewarding lawbreakers sends the wrong message to those who have attained legal citizenship. Additionally, I recognize the need for an adequate labor supply. I believe we must provide employers with a more workable system and hold those accountable who knowingly hire illegals.

It appears the issue of what to do with the illegal aliens that are here now is still up in the air. An amnesty program by any other name is still an amnesty program and will be seen by other illegal aliens as an opportunity to come into our country and stay. The bottom line is we wouldnt have nearly as large of a problem if we would enforce the laws we have now. http://www.house.gov/list/press/co05_hefley/060515presimmigration.html
