BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on immigration tomorrow night. Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's "passion" on immigration. He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy. Stand Up For America !

For legal immigrants, the wait is often long {Buried in this article-}The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee has gone to federal court in 13 states over what it says are undue delays in processing citizenship applications from Arabs and Muslims. Denver lawyer Jihad Muhaisen says they "are slam-dunk cases." Hisham Alhourani, who immigrated from Jordan in 1991 and now manages two Texas beauty salons, says he waited a year for a May 2 citizenship interview, only to receive a cancellation letter with no explanation. "Why?" asks Alhourani, who is waiting for further instructions. "We are good people. ... We're trying to avoid doing anything wrong."Gonzalez, the top U.S. immigration official, makes no apologies. "Obviously, after 9/11, security is key," he says. "I remind our staff: If in doubt, don't do it."INVASION USA No militarization of U.S.-Mex border Bush assures Americans: 'Mexico is our neighbor and our friend'

Untying the immigration knot-It would end the U.S. as we currently know it." That's Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation, speaking of what would happen if an immigration proposal by Sens. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., and Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., becomes law. Their plan would grant amnesty to 9 million to 10 million illegal immigrants and put those immigrants on a path to citizenship. Moreover, the Martinez-Hagel plan would pave the way for an estimated 103 million persons to legally immigrate to the U.S. over the next 20 years fully one-third of the current population of the United States. Current law allows 19 million legal immigrants over the next 20 years. The Martinez-Hagel plan would add an extra 84 million legal immigrants to that number.

NO, MR. PRESIDENT, IT'S NOT ENOUGH!2) Absolutely, there will be amnesty, although the President will never admit it, and 3) Absolutely not. The reconquista movement will continue to thrive.

(REPUBLICAN FOR SECURED BORDER AND NO 'EARNED' AMNESTY)
Most EXCELLENT article in Quad City Times:
Immigration bottom line: Dont break the law When did it become okay to break the law in the United States? Not only for the people coming here illegally, but also for the employers that are hiring them? I have been back and forth across the California-Mexico border many times. I have seen the quality of life for many in Mexico. I can understand why they want to come here. You can go back and forth about the draconian immigration reform bill. You can sympathize with the plight of the immigrants coming in, and debate all the other issues involved. However, the bottom line is this it is not OK to break the law.
16 More Illegal Immigrants Arrested by Sheriff's Posse and Deputy Operation- (Phoenix, AZ) Are they getting the Sheriff's message or not? The answer to that question appears mixed, according to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Focus on Women and Rape at the Border (coyote's)
Many non-Mexican aliens caught, released, disappear-WASHINGTON -- Beefed-up enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border since Sept. 11, 2001, has substantially increased the number of arrests of illegal immigrants, but tens of thousands of captured non-Mexicans continue to be released into the United States because there is no place to hold them, according to experts and immigration officials. Mexico will not accept them.
A CRIME AMERICANS DIDN'T DO- Via AP, which refuses to tell you the convicted murderer's citizenship status until the very end of the story--because the fact that he should have never been here apparently isn't relevant--and instead refers to him simply as a "handyman" in its whitewashed headline

All the amendments are just gifts to illegals, allowing them to skate, giving them citizenship, they are getting everything they asked for from our Senate

Newt is on talking about the Heritage report -- people on the Hannity thread pooh-poohing the whole immigration thing and Newt -- some saying they could care less about immigration./
