Murtha speech gets cheers and jeers

U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha -- one of the most vocal critics of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq -- drew cheers and boos during his commencement speech at Seton Hill University on Saturday when he once again called for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.
"We don't care. This isn't about graduation," Leonard Pierce, of North Huntingdon, the parent of a graduate, called out several times from the audience.
The catcalls prompted shouts from other audience members that Murtha should be allowed to speak. The back-and-forth was clearly audible inside the Katherine Mabis McKenna Center on the Greensburg campus. The small, liberal arts Catholic university is in the heart of Murtha's 12th Congressional District, which he has represented since 1974.
Murtha ignored the brief disruption. Later, he dismissed the heckling as of no great consequence. One student, on his way to get his diploma, told the congressman that graduation was not the place to air the war issue, Murtha said.
"I told him, 'This is America, not Russia,' " Murtha said.

Catcalls that Ann Coulter, Dinesh D'Souza, and David Horowitz know all to well.
It's a free country and Murtha has the right to his views on the Iraq War, but this was not the appropirate time or place to bring them up.
DIANA IREY FOR CONGRESS!!!
Did Murtha again call for redploying the troops to Okinawa, so they could keep an eye on Tojo?
Ya but maybe Murtha is beginning to hear the people that elected him to do the Nation's business as set forth in the Constitution of the United States.
Congressman Murtha (P.O.S.-PA) meets true American Hero.
What are they talking about ????? The war is over... The MSM just hasn't told anyone yet.... WE WON... Iraq has an army, a self defense force, a Democracy... our mission is oversight now... lets just get some bases built restore the flow of oil and continue to help them rebuild their country...
Murtha looks like some 15th century cleric in that getup...
Student: "Congressman Murtha, this is not the place to discuss politics!"
Murtha: "Shut up, boy, or I'll have General Washington ship your butt off to fight the Hessians!"
Good for the Marine! Not too long ago the conservative dissenting voices were never heard. Now they are on every campus and getting stronger. I have real hope for the future of our country!
It is a pleasure to see a young man with backbone stand up to a brainless Drill Sargeant.
It does amaze me that twits like Murtha are elected and do get to foist their completely wrong opinions on innocent people in in a public forum.
How many times do Democrats need to open their mouths before each and every one of us realizes there really is no greater danger.
The enemy within is just a ballot away in YOUR home town.
A fat and particularly stupid 15th century cleric.
This worth repeating, IMHO.
"If you want anything done on the committee, you go to Murtha."
He's delivered so much pork to his congressional district, an airport and a major highway are named after Murtha.
Ashdown and his nonpartisan watchdog group criticized Murtha for using the $417 billion fiscal 2005 Pentagon spending bill to give business to his lobbyist brother.
The Los Angeles Times in June reported that Murtha funneled nearly $21 million to 10 or more corporate clients of KSA Consulting, where Robert "Kit" Murtha is a senior partner.
Carmen Scialabba, a Murtha congressional aide for 27 years, is also a high-ranking official at KSA.
I couldn't agree with the student more, it was not an appropriate venue.
It is encouraging that some of his constituents are speaking up against him and his war stance, it's a good omen for Diana Irey.
The LA Times pulled the original article from their website when Murtha became the darling of the anti-American left.
But it still exists in cyberspace in it's entirety here:
