Agreed snugs. I've learned from people like your dad for years, and plan on continuing the education. A lot of our older citizens have been through these things so many times that their wisdom helps all of us today.

Qwest's Newest Hero - Their Indicted CEO ->Betsy Newmark's great expose:

Couple of days ago, when Chris Mathews was at his highest shrill level - called in Ken Salazaar(D) & congratulated his home-state company Quest for refusing to cooperate in data collection.

It 's worth noting however, that Joseph Nacchia, the former CEO of Qwest, is now being portrayed as this great hero of our civil liberties. Just a few months ago, he was indicted for insider trading.

"Maybe a bit off topic but does anyone else think this floated of idea of Prez Bush adding NG troops to the border is a bluff to SW state guvs re: illegal immigation. Should shut up Napolitano and put her on the spot. Correct or Incorrect?"

I'm not sure that it's a bluff, given the Pentagon asked Congress to allow it to happen and the House passed the bill last week. My guess is that it may shut her up to an extent; however, I think the Dims have put their collective fingers in the wind and looked at the polls and decided they better get on this issue and are being their normal disingenuous selves.

Rush already mentioned in the past few months that we should just adopt Dingy Harry's immigration proposal from about 1993 (Harry Reid has done a complete 180 on his thoughts from back then, and, of course whitewashed it - - my guess is that if Bubba had been in office and wanted it, he would support it now. He wouldn't allow amendments to the Senate bill before Easter, but now wants to work w Frist.

Of course, Howard Dean read the polls and came out last week and said we needed to get tough on border security.

Hill and Chuckie are now voting FOR border security after they voted against it. It was in the news yesterday that the Pres is going to talk about sending troops to the border Mon night (again, stories last week were on the Pentagon asking the House to pass a bill allowing them to do just that and the House passing said bill). While the stories on the Pres's speech are the usual 'sources say' and I'm not sure anyone knows for sure what the Pres is going to say, Hill and Chuckie have again read the polls and have already come out, trying to steal a little of the President's thunder and look 'tough' on Nat'l security (I suppose they'll still find a way to pander to the Hispanic community) (see the article below - I hope Chuckie doesn't trip over anything running to the microphones). How do they know Bush is sending NG to the border (though it might be a good assumption) and how do they know he's going to say no guns? If the troops are armed, are they going to say "Glad he listened to us"?? Or, was this released earlier than it was supposed to be - - the press release indicates that Bush has already sent troops to the border?

Bottom line is the Pubbies need to listen to this base and also get on top and out in front of this issue NOW and NOT let the Dims, who have been dragging their feet, pandering to unions and the Hispanics, and previously blocking discussions and amendments in the Senate, take this issue over.

Flashback: Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer Nix Border Security Bill

Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer Nix Border Security Bill

New York's two senators, Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer - who have been complaining since the London bombing attacks that the federal government hasn't done enough to protect the U.S. from terrorists - voted against legislation to enhance border security on Thursday.

Clinton and Schumer turned thumbs down on two amendments to a Department of Homeland Security spending bill, which, according to the Washington Times, would have funded plans for 2,000 new Border Patrol agents and more than 5,000 new detention beds to house illegal aliens.

SCHUMER, CLINTON WANT TO ARM NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS ON THE BORDER
SCHUMER Press Release ^ | Senator Charles E. Schumer

Posted on 05/12/2006 8:32:41 PM PDT by kellynla

US Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton today joined the Senate's National Guard Caucus – comprised of almost 60 of their Senate colleagues – in asking President Bush to arm the National Guard troops recently deployed to the nation's borders.

As part of its efforts to beef up security along the borders, the Administration deployed National Guard troops on an interim basis to assist Border Patrol, INS and Customs agents but did not arm them. In a letter to the President, the Senators asked the Bush Administration to reverse its decision to bar National Guard personnel from carrying sidearms for strictly protective purposes.

"Until we can get a permanent staff in place that meets the border's long-term security and commercial needs, we'll need to rely on the National Guard to help process the cargo and tourists going in and out of the country," Schumer said. "The men and women who comprise the National Guard force at the border are making some real sacrifices to protect all of us. The very least that we can do is make sure that they can protect themselves."

"Having the National Guard at our borders without guns is a recipe for potential disaster. They are literally at the front lines of our homeland defense and leaving them unprotected would be a real dereliction of duty. They are our National Guard -- we shouldn't let them become targets of opportunity for those who would do them harm," Clinton said.

The following is a copy of the Senators' letter:

"We are writing about the recent interagency agreement on the activation of 1700 members of the National Guard to serve on the nation's border, which bars these highly-trained men and women from carrying firearms for protection. We think this decision places them in grave danger unnecessarily.

Yes, she is, and I agree with you (and the President) that marrying her was a sign of his intelligence.

Mary Cheney up now. Right off the bat she is very impressive.

Re: getting out in front and explaining in advance

Bob Tyrrell said that Churchill wrote his 6 volume memoir, for which he won a Nobel Prize, and never mentioned the existence of Enigma or cracking the Japanese code. His books were Censored by the British Government years after WWII, in the interest of not giving away an advantage to the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Unfortunately in war situations one has to do things that in peace you want not contemplate.

People still do not get it WE ARE AT WAR.

Unfortunately because of the 24/7 news circus and their bias as well it makes it all the more harder for the armed forces they have to be seen conducting a PC war. Unfortunately wars cannot be PC.

Amen to that. I have many reservations about my leader David Cameron but as dad says without power you can do nothing.

If it means sacrificing a few pet issues to get power I would gratefully go for that after 9 years of socialist government.

Good to hear form you MNJ.

This maybe one of the most important posts for Freepers and all good conservatives to digest.

MNJ's 60% theory is and should be echoed everywhere since it is the secret to not driving yourself crazy over not getting every issue we want.

As MNJ says "life, especially in politics requires compromise, and he is absolutely right. Important post here.

The Dems have painted themselves into an indefensible corner on National Security, and they can't get out of it.

They can rally no more popular support. The only way to win is divide conservatives, and immigration is the wedge.

There are a lot of provocatuers at work throughout the conservative body.

Can't say too much because I have not followed it daily but I think the Nacchia trial is still going on. And, if I remember right, it's not just him. Qwest has a few problems they are trying to work through.
