CARRBORO, N.C. -- A Carrboro alderman wants to make his city the first in North Carolina to let noncitizens vote.
At a meeting Friday between the Board of Aldermen and the Orange County legislative delegation, John Herrera asked the state lawmakers to take the topic to the General Assembly.
Herrera, a U.S. citizen who is a native of Costa Rica, said allowing future U.S. citizens and legal residents to vote in municipal elections will put them on the path to citizenship.
"In Carrboro, we would really like to be the pilot project in this," Herrera said.
Sen. Ellie Kinnaird and Reps. Joe Hackney and Verla Insko, all Democrats, said they liked the idea, but it would require amending the state constitution.
That means it would be more appropriate to raise it during a long session of the Legislature, that starts after the fall elections, not the short one that is under way now.
"This is a huge issue _ I mean huge _ if this is going to be a constitutional amendment," said Kinnaird, a former mayor of Carrboro. "So planting the seed in our minds is a good start."

Also, just so ya know... many years ago there was a 'Black Hills College'. This college was run by artists, poets, etc... a TRUE left wing bastion. Berzerkley was like a monestary in comparison. But don't worry, it's been defunct for many years now. Lots of great folk art in that area. World class gem and mineral hunting too. Great music too!

what exactly are the "perks" of being a citizen of this country?
We pay the taxes, we get very little in return, we pay for our own health care, we pay for the criminals, we pay for the poor and needy here and around the world, we have to pay our own bills, we have to follow the laws(even the retarded ones) we get to vote, only to be screwed by the dinks we put in office, we get to pay more for our meds(that are researched and created in this country) than other countries. We are forced to buy insurance of all sorts and we get to sign up for selected service.

Carrboro is the most liberal town in North Carolina and probably in the South. It makes Chapel Hill look conservative. Full of nut bars. And in the last few years a massive hispanic influx has joined them. The hispanic population in that town is huge now.

The socialist termites are always attracted to universities. Universities and colleges provide the ideal breeding environment for their kind. The hosts (students) are most easily infected while their brains are in a developmental state and while a cure is possible in later life it is not always effective. Shock therapy (mugging, home invasion, assault, car-jacking) is sometimes effective but can endanger the patient.
