President Bush plans to address the nation on Monday night at 8 PM to con the American public into buying into his ludicrous immigration policies. His approval ratings are at an all-time low, with only 31% of Americans approving of his job performance, while "68% believe the United States is worse off today than it was before Mr. Bush became president." Bush's immigration policies would open the floodgates to illegals, and Americans do not approve -- and it looks like the Senate agrees. Another poll shows support for the House's tough and very sensible immigration legislation, HR 4437:
...69 percent said it was a good or very good idea when told it tries to make illegals go home by fortifying the border, forcing employer verification, and encouraging greater cooperation with local law enforcement while not increasing legal immigration; 27 percent said it was a bad or very bad idea.
In an attempt to assuage American concerns about the unfettered illegal immigration tidal wave, Bush has proposed using the National Guard to patrol our borders:
President Bush, trying to build momentum for an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, is considering plans to shore up the Mexican border with National Guard troops paid for by the federal government, according to senior administration officials. One defense official said military leaders believe the number of troops required could range from 3,500 to 10,000, depending on the final plan.
That's a great idea, except that Bush wants to provide amnesty to the millions of illegals already present in the U.S., and he wants to allow 400,000 "guest workers" to enter the U.S. every year. This is a recipe for disaster.
There are at least 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., and 10,000 pouring into our nation every day. One study predicts there will be 5 million more Latin American immigrants in the U.S. by 2015, while another prognosticates that illegals will push the American population to 1/2 billion people by 2050. Since the U.S. government is failing dismally at stemming this unfettered tidal wave, a group of concerned citizens, the Minuteman, has tried to prevent illegal immigration, but it appears that Bush has betrayed them.
And it looks like the Republican-controlled Senate is on the verge of betraying the American people by planning to push through legislation which will implement Bush's disastrous proposals. If the Republicans are looking to retain the Senate in the 2006 elections, they may just be shooting themselves in their collective feet.
The problem with Bush and many Republicans is that they are looking at immigration solely in 2 modalities: 1) trying to court the Latino vote, and 2) looking at immigration solely in near-term economic terms.
President Bush and Mexico's President Fox are colluding in an unholy alliance. Bush wants cheap Mexican labor -- forget the problems illegals pose to American society. Fox, an arrogant racist, wants to dump his economic problems on the U.S. instead of enacting much-needed reforms in his own corrupt society. It looks like Senate Republicans have joined the alliance.
It is time for the U.S. to criminalize illegal immigration as a felony offense. We need to build a wall along the Mexico border and provide enough personnel to patrol that border. We need to make it very painful for employers who hire illegals.
Are we to sit by idly while illegal immigrants openly march through our streets, trying to intimidate our policy makers, defame our flag, and rewrite our national anthem? Complacency will lead to the end of our prosperity and democracy.
Perhaps most importantly, it is time for the Third World to start dealing with its own problems (like corruption and overpopulation), and stop trying to dump those problems on the U.S.
Take action: Support LEGAL immigration.

Sleep it off.
President Bush always said he supported the idea of a guest worker program. It was obvious during his first campaign he was soft on illegals and not fiscally conservative.
That's the reason I was not as enthusiastic about President Bush as I was about President Reagan.
Even his "compassionate conservativism" was a clue. He didn't mislead anyone.
I heard Bootrz give a statistic last week which is very discouraging to me. Over half the children in the US below a certain age, which I missed hearing BTW, are now non-white. I don't know if Hispanics are considered non-white by the study but I imagine they are.
That's a sobering statistic given the fact that almost every non-white minority group votes very heavily Democrat. The only Hispanic group that usually votes Republican is the Cuban community in south FL, and that's a relatively small percentage of the Hispanic population.
When that demographic tidal wave hits the voting booths in a few years you can say goodbye to any further chance of ever getting America back on a steady conservative track. I guess the Reagan years will go down as the last hurrah of the once great American Republic.
"We have to have a large amount of the Hispanic vote in the future to be a viable party period."
You are right.
The legal immigration we have tends to be more self-sufficient and higher-educated than the illegal aliens. Most illegal aliens have high school educations, if that, and will be low-wage earners. We should respect legal immigrants and all ethnic minorities and exress desire to want them to participate fully in the American dream, *in accordance with the law*.
Giving 10 million illegal aliens amnesty will permit about *30 million* migrants to come in in the next 20 years, and their use of welfare will be much, much higher than current citizens. They will be urban dwellers (Democrat territory) and their incomes will be in the range of typical Democrat voters.
There is not way in h8ll these voters will be majoirty Republican. Rather, they will form a large component of the Democrat base.
If we want to be a viable party, therefore, the LAST thing we want is a flood of illegal aliens that will become insta-Democrats. Instead, we should fight against amensty and work with the Hispanics who are *here* legally to increase their economic opportunities.
It is also true that bad policies never make for good politics, and hispanic citizens oppose amnesty to illegals just as do other citizens. The Republicans will NEVER be able to out-pander to these, because as the law-and-order party we cannot abide catering to people who break the law, but Democrats can and will. Such a strategy will end in electoral breakdown, as polls are starting to show.
"Also calling American citizens "Anchor babies" and making further degrading comments about them because of accidents of birth isnt going to be a great draw to the GOP."
Excuse me, but these arent 'accidents of birth', but many thousands, cases of deliberate use anmd abuse. For example, my wife is an immigrant. She knows of places/homes/facilities where women will come here, stay a while to have a baby come to term, so they can have the baby here... this is done on tourist visas. In border towns, the women come over as illegal immigrants - in LA county, the majority of live births are now to illegal aliens mothers. This is not an 'accident' but a deliberate attempt to abuse the system.
We should end 'birthright citizenship' a concept that we didnt have in our history, and almost no country has. Just because someone gives birth here doesnt mean their children should be US citizens. That should be considered only if parents are legal residents here in the US.
Lastly, you are GREATLY confused. Illegal alien and hispanic are not synonymous. Yes, lets listen to Hispanic *citizens*, and you'll find they are for respect for the community but hardly the bending-over amnesty policies that will allow floods of migrants to come over. You fall into the same trap as some of the anti-immigration folk.
"The glory of the Senate is because of the terms they have they can take a long term perspective. "
The long-term persepctive is this: 20 years ago amnesty was tried and it was an abysmal failure that made illegal immigration far, far worse. Simple psychology explains why: Illegal aliens calculated that, eventually, they would be 'legal' citizens and so were induced to come here irregardless of the laws. We should have reasonable levels of *legal immigration* and do our best to eliminate illegal immigration. Guest worker and other visas are needed, but NOT an unlimited blank check program for illegals.
Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it. Amnesty was, is, and will be a total failure.
"It is time for the U.S. to criminalize illegal immigration as a felony offense."
"Even the House is now opposed to this."
"If an illegal is working now, chances are the he/she has committed a felony by using false ID or making false statements on withholding forms."
That's not the point. Illegal presence in the US was made a criminal offense in HR4437, whereas before it was civil. That may be useful, but the federal felony provision in the bill is overkill, and attempts by the Republicans to take it out were turned back by Democrats in December precisely so the 'pro-amnesty' side could have a talking point about how punitive the House Republicans are being. It helped the pro-amensty fearmongering ... It need not be so, as the #1 cure for being in the US with legal right is deportation, and a misdemeanor charge is enough to get warrants issued.
Sinkspur is right on it, even the House is opposed to the felony provision. It will never make it into law.
"68% believe we where better off before Bush? I don't buy it."
Have people forgotten?!? we were in a dream state.
"you have to remember that we had a lot of problems (i.e. War on Terror) that no one paid any attention to until Bush became president. Also, I don't believe there has been a President in history (other than Nixon perhaps) that MSM went after with such a vengeance."
He can be well-compared with Lincoln, the most vilified President (when he was President, now he is revered).
It would be nice if sleeping it off could cure your problems. It would be nice if sleeping it off would let you realize, your solutions are misquided for our country.
I don't use alcohol or any other drugs. However, if you do, stop, and If you don't, maybe you need to find some.
Tomorrow I will still be making the same arguments I have tonight. If you are on still on the opposite side, I shall again have to point out where I think you are wrong.
Secure the borders, Build the wall, Prosecute the employers.
Post your name, SS, and address. Mother's maiden name, too.
No I am not Al. I have no name. I am without a name.
Of course that doesn,t make me happy in the least. I want a solution to the problem. The House bill by itself and certain components of it is not a solution for many reasons. (1) It will never get Senate approval there fore the situation will just get worse. (2) It ignores reality- we can not and this Country will not endure 11 million people many with American famillies dumped and deported by force out of here carte blanc (3) If my point 2 was attempted the Hispanic community would vote against the Republican Repub nominee in 08 and others thus making the situation worse. The solution is effective border control and some form(smaller and more staggered guest worker program). Citizenship can be reviewed and that can be tweaked as well. Furthermore a more comprehensive policy toward LAtin American would help greatly. This a problem thats been allowed to fester for 30 years so the solutions will not be easy. They can be had. However the House bill is not one imho.
Right. It's already a felony to forge a Social Security card.
If it goes to a New England prep school: IT AIN'T TEXAS.
If it goes to Yale: IT AIN'T TEXAS.
If it goes to Harvard: IT AIN"T TEXAS.
If it belongs to Skull and Bones: IT AIN'T TEXAS.
What part of that don't you understand? O my God! You're an AGGIE! THAT explains it! :-)
It's a conspiracy I tells ya.
Probably being headed by Pete Williams after his post-187 loss.
I guess Phyllis Schlafly is a liar. But, goshdarnit, she insists on linking to that pesky ole CFR document. I suppose the document is a lie, too.
Q: "How long have you lived in Indiana?"
A: I reside in Indiana only part-time. With an office in Chicago (among several across the USA) it makes doing business easier. BTW, I have homes in Colorado and New Hampshire.
"GWB has done more in a very short time to prove his Americanism "
Since you do not know MY background and MY activities you have no earthly idea what I have contributed to MY country but I'm sure it's much more than you will ever contribute.
"If you're a Texan, how come you don't have the Texas flag on your home page?"
A: Because I'm not in Texas this month.
"You ain't no Texan if you're ashamed of it."
A: A Texas flag flies at each of my homes. Do you fly a Texas flag at your home or do you fly the flag of Mexico?
"Did you vote for Governor Bush?"
Having known the Bush family for 30 plus years I can honestly say I did not vote for Bush during his run for governor. I elected to vote in New Hampshire during that period. I did vote for him in 2000 but not in 2004.
