"The problem you have right now is the conservative movement -- which is still very healthy in the country at large -- feels very abandoned in Washington," he told the Trib yesterday.
Using my best shrill, harpie voice: AAAACK! He wants Hillary to win! He wants Pelosi as speaker! He wants to turn it over to the Dems! I can't believe he said that! I've known he was a BircherBuchananiteDUTrollDemInfiltratorMobyStormfronter all along!
"Conservatives actually believe in a balanced budget as a moral issue. Conservatives actually believe you ought to control the border as a matter of national security. Conservatives are the people who pay the taxes. They're not the people who get the pork."
More shrill, harpie-speak: Are you kidding me! Reagan hardly ever balanced the budget! Reagan didn't control the border! Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegal aliens too! You can bet Hillary won't control the borders or balance the budget!! Screech!! You can bet Pelosi won't control the borders or balance the budget! We're at war! Gingrich can't say this or he's not supporting the troops! He's supporting the terrorists!! He wants to turn it all over to the Democrats!!! Screeeeeech!!!
"I'd look at very substantial investment in national security -- a very tough-minded approach to homeland security -- and absolute control of the borders."
Shrill, harpie screeching: When campaigning, President Bush never said that he wanted absolute control of the border! Gingrich is unappeasable! What a malcontent!! He's a racistxenophobantihispanicnazibigot who hates Mexicans!!! He's a secret member of Stormfront!!! He wants to turn it all over to the Democrats!!!!!! He's never been a real conservative!!! He hates Bush!! He wouldn't say any of this if he wasn't a Bush basher!!! He hate Republicans too!!! What does he want, for everyone to vote third party!!?!!
Shut up, Newt! Go away!!! We don't need your support anyway!! We don't need the votes of the so-called "conservatives" that you're talking about because they're just a bunch of moronic, right-wing, extremist, fringe whacko, malcontent, unappeasable, fake conservative, democrat loving, stupid hicks who want Hillary for President and Pelosi for speaker!!! Brrraaaaaaaccccckkkkkkk!!!!!!!! They probably never voted for Republicans in the first place! They're just Democrats trying to ruin our chances! The polls are lying!!!

A few days ago, RNC Chair Ken Mehlman alluded to this. Now Newt Gingrich speaks to it. The choice is either to marginalize the conservatives even more, beat on them, claim they're too demanding, unrealistic, unappeasable. Or realize why they feel betrayed and work to find a way to make amends.
One of these choices will put Hillary in the White House and Pelosi in the Speaker's chair. Choose wisely.

"How can you say God can't exist in a public square if your primary political document starts by saying your rights come from God," Gingrich said. "You have to have a fight about defining America."
Please be the GOP nominee in 08. The only repub of note with a brain. He will destroy Hillary.

Sherrif Joe is arresting illegals. People are fed up with the elected officials refusing to obey the Constitution.
I have a suggestion for Open Borders. Have those GOP and Democrat leaders leave the country. Then we can seal the borders.
Phoenix has become Open Boarders for all the free-loading criminals destroying the justical and health systems at taxpayer expense.

A unparalleled socialist disaster so unpopular among seniors that a third of those eligible haven't signed up even though the deadline to do so is a few days away.

Maybe that depends on which Republican is making the promises.

-That it is. Many financial experts are predicting that Medicare will bankrupt this country.

You need to take Newt and Gingrich out and post it at the beginning of every immigration thread.
It will reduce the number of replies withing a thread by at least 1/3.

A succinct summary. The spending, the border.. Exactly why should conservatives feel the GOP is representing them? When you add how many Dims and independents feel the same way in the most heavily invaded states, Newt is right.
The GOP has a huge opportunity not only to win but to win big. But only if they return to the rule of law and Reagan's principles.

Process of elimination of what we have out there so far. Newt is getting higher and higher on that list.

To: George W. Bush
The GOP has a huge opportunity not only to win but to win big. I wish I could think so too. However, it is May. Primaries are in September and the General Election is in November. It is likely far too late to do much of anything substantial to patch things up with conservatives. In 6 months, there's no way that they can undo years of bloated spending and border security malfeasance. In fact, the 2008 Presidential Election is 2.5 years away. I'm not confident that in that period of time they can undo years of bloated spending and border security malfeasance. I think that the best we can hope for - and I don't think it will be enough - is not a reversal, but at least they can STOP spending like drunken sailers and they can STOP trying to appease the millions of criminal invaders within our borders.
But that is not what we elected Republicans for. We conservatives elected them, over the Democrats, to ROLL BACK government spending, not reduce the rate of spending increases, but to actually CUT spending and balance the budget. We conservatives cast our votes for Republicans hoping that they would be strong on national defense NOT so weak that they're busy capitulating to our corrupt neighbor to the south and inviting and excusing millions of foreigners violating our national borders and then rewarding them with jobs, free public benefits, and even the precious birthright of American citizenship. We expected the numbers to actually GO DOWN - to see an increase in deportations and a decrease in those here illegally. Instead we've seen them GO UP and UP and UP as the President promises over and over again that he's going to find them a way to become citizens.
It is going to be damned difficult to reverse the damage they've done in this short of a time. That is, unless they can fool conservatives or make some strong promises that they better keep. The Contract with America was a good trick, but hardly any of it was ever enacted into law. I'm sure Contract with America II will look good (if that's what they call it if they get their act together and do something like that) but seeing the record on the first one, I'm not to anxious to buy into the second one.
