An arsenal of exotic weapons - including a sniper rifle, a spear and a set of 8-inch metal claws - were seized from a 23-year-old Jersey City man after his worried father called cops. When South District cops responded to the Greenville home yesterday morning, they found the sniper rifle - with a powerful scope and a laser sight - as well as three Glock handguns and more than 1,200 rounds of ammunition, reports said. Among the bullets were illegal "hollow-point" rounds, police said. In addition to the spear and metal claws, cops found a number of savage-looking knives, including one that had blades coming out of each end of its carved wooden handle. The owner of the weapons lived with his father, his brother and two younger brothers, police said.

I hope they never check my truck, there's far more firepower in it, than there was in that house.

(including my .22 LR stash).

.22 rimfires should not be included in your ammo count. you can usually get 1,000 rounds for a $20.

come on up to MI sometime and i'll show ya. 1,200 rounds of .22 won't last more than a couple hours.

I burned close to 500 rounds last saturday at the TC memorial shoot. It does not take long to burn up ammo when having fun.

What would you recommend for 7.62x51?

Look around for the military surplus (British, Portuguese, South African, whatever) and buy a pack of each. Test it in your rifle and see what it likes, then buy thousands of rounds from the same batch, same source.

Tell the sellers you are doing this, so they can be sure to get the sample from an ample lot that will be there for a few weeks. They might even set aside a few thousand rounds for you for a few weeks.

And if using Cheaper Than Dirt, use the following link, which helps support a very good operation. http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-2013077-10277519

I'm soooo glad that when I was living in NJ that my parents weren't as STOOOPID as this guy's father. Sheesh, he was an amateur. Before I left NJ in late 2000, I had about 10 guns (including a couple of scoped "sniper rifles" - what a BS phrase that is), plus at least 7,500 rounds of ammo (not including .22LR, which the police and media in NJ would duly report as "ammunition" the same as if it was .50 BMG API), including over 1,000 hollow points and about 150 .30-'06 AP, not to mention about 3 dozen magazines in excess of 15 rounds capacity (a jailable offense in the PRNJ) and lots of reloading equipment and components (doubtless the smokeless powder would be reported as "explosives").

I am very glad not to live in NJ anymore. When I passed the "Welcome to Delaware" sign on the DMB, I told my wife "now you won't have to bail me out of jail." She gave me the bug-eyes, at which point I explained the magazine laws (carefully omitting anything about the hollow points). She asked how many mags I had, and I said, "oh, about 200 years in Rahway worth" (Rahway is a state prison, FYI). More bug-eyes. She then asked if Texas (where we were moving) had laws like that, and I told her, "no, Texas is in America."

BTW, mere ownership of hollowpoint ammo in NJ is NOT illegal. However, traveling with them IS, unless you can prove that you're going to the range, or going home on the way back from the gunshop, or that you're traveling through the state on the way to somewhere that they're legal...which, of course, you'd have to prove AFTER having been arrested (and probably beaten) by the hoplophobic NJ cops and hauled before a hoplophobic judge.

I grew up in NJ, but I have to say that the state sucks. High taxes, overcrowding, lots of pollution (near NY), lots of crime (again, near NY, which is to say Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth - and Trenton and Camden in the south are no picnic either), Draconian and tyrannical gun laws, overpriced housing and a general attitude on the part of state and local officials that you are their mentally inferior tax slaves. I miss friends, some good eating places, the familiarity of the place I grew up and some nice countryside (away from NY), but I don't miss the day-to-day grind of living in a Socialist "paradise." Thanks, liberal NY'ers - it wasn't enough to screw up NYC, but you had to come to MY state and EFF up the whole thing just to escape the cesspool that you created?

They really do have a few screws loose in the state of New Jersey these days.

A few? It is more like someone dumped a trainload full of assorted nuts and screw(ball)s in the state capitol.

There is a reason the signs leading to Pennsylvania used to say something like, "Welcome to Pennsylvania, America Starts Here!"

Used to? Damn, it is disappointing to hear that those signs are gone. At least they annoyed Fascist Florio for a while.

I can't comprehend living in a state with laws like that. Hell, they'd have enough on me to jail me for a long time. I don't have as much ammunition as you did because of financial reasons, but I have enough 7.62x39 and 30 round mags to cause the liberal media types to hyperventilate. Because of what the gun stores around here sell, most of my "arsenal" is comprised of hollow points, though I never turn down a box of FMJ when I see it. Hollow points are for target shooting and hunting, FMJs are for a rainy day.

What kind of rifle would you recommend for 7.62.51?

Now that depends on what you want to do with it, and how much you want to spend. If you want an expensive military style shooter, then a CETME or one of the FN/FAL clones is nice. Or if you've got a bit more to spend an AR-10 or SR-25(?). But maybe you want a tack driving "sniper" rifle?

People I've spoken too who own the inexpensive CETME and the VEPR (Russian) in .308/7.62 are happy with them.

When you grow up in a state like that, you're used to it. The gun laws were new to me at age 28 (after many too many years in school and repaying loans, that was when I could first afford to buy a gun), and they really made me bristle. However, going to PA to buy long guns made me feel better (before about 11/1/98 these sales were not reported to NJ, now they are), and going to gun shows in PA was a real treat (and it is where I got my "hi cap" mags that were NJ-illegal and my hollow point ammo in bulk.

I use hollow point in my carry guns ("carry guns" is a novel concept to those from NJ, but is very comforting here in TX), and FMJ - which is cheaper - for target shooting and STHF scenarios.

"STHF" should be "SHTF"

Why does PA report these sales to NJ now? As soon as I can get the money I'm going to buy a good .45 caliber pistol and then find the time to get a conceal carry permit. I don't believe in the idea of making people get a permit just to carry, but might as well do it to cover my own arse.

"Makes me sick how the pussies are taking over."

Keep this in mind.

When we start shooting back, they will more likely than not piss themselves and surrender instead of fight to the death.

WE have something to fight for.

Freedom!

What do THEY have to fight for? Money?

I'll take 1 free man fighting to protect his home and way of life than any 100 paid lackies of any country.

I have that much ammo and more rifles to boot, including a bolt action "Savage" 22 rimfire. Guess that makes me reportable.

Hey, That's a nice piece. Personally I gave my wife a .32 Beretta. I know its light but that is the most she can handle. As you know, it's not really the size of the bullet it is where you place it.
