It's 3:00 CDT; time for me to get ready for teaching.

It's 11:00 p.m. where my boy is; and they are having a sandstorm.

He's been on my mind a LOT today. Thank you all for your continued sopport, prayers, and just being here. It means a lot to me.

God bless our troops. Protect them, and keep them strong.

And keep the sand out of their eyes, please.

I'll be back later.

Frito Pie, the tempting taste treat of Texas Trailer Trash!

2 cans Chili (without beans)
1 10-oz bag regular Fritos corn chips
8 oz. grated Colby or Cheddar cheese
1 med. onion, coarsely chopped
1 sm. can diced green chilis, drained

Heat chili until warm, add onion and green chilis. Layer Fritos, cheese, chili in a casserole dish, finish with a sprinkling of cheese. Cover and bake 25 min. at 350º.

Serve with ice-cold Shiner Bock beer.

Just got back from Port Orford
and my meetings for next weeks classes.

I had meetings in Charleston yesterday.

BOTH classes are now full in
Charleston and Port Orford.

These are the same classes that
I was the co-ordinator
for in Aug and Nov of last year.

I have great contacts in both Ports
(both admin and commercial fishermen)
that helped me do the preliminary work.

I don't teach the course
(only Alaska Marine Safety Education Association
graduates can,
in this case MSO Portland and MSO Seattle)

I did all the preliminary work to
make these classes happen next week.
i.e. Arrange for classroom space, arrange
drill locations, arrange vessels for drills,
handle press releases, signups etc.

I'll be in both locations,
with my crew,
assisting the instructors,
during the classes next week.

Pictures of last years classes are here.

U.S. Coast Guard News
Sector Portland, Oregon, 6767 N. Basin Ave., Portland OR 97217

Marine Safety and Survival Training

in Port Orford Mon May 15 and Tue May 16
and Charleston Wed May 17 and Thur May 18

Under the auspices of Alaska Marine Safety Education Association
(AMSEA) the Coast Guard will present
(2) two-day, hands-on safety and
survival workshops for commercial fishermen
in Port Orford Mon May 15 and Tue May 16
and Charleston Wed May 17 and Thur May 18

The workshops are free for commercial fishers.
Students enrollment limited to 20 per workshop.

This U.S. Coast Guard-approved, Marine Survival Equipment, Procedures
and Onboard Drills training meets USCG requirements for commercial
fishing vessels operating outside the boundary line.

Participants will practice with emergency equipment that should be
onboard any commercial fishing boat or other sizeable vessel - PFDs,
life rafts, immersion suits, EPIRBs, fire extinguishers. They will
learn and practice emergency procedures like man overboard retrieval,
abandoning ship, fire fighting and flooding control.

Mariners who have already taken the course are encouraged to attend
again to refresh their skills. A study by NIOSH determined that after
five years, the effectiveness of training in reducing fatalities
declines significantly.

contact Brian Marotta at
