Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

The Border Patrol has obviously been ordered to deny the story. They won't even try and explain the incongruity of the Mexican governmental sites explicitly referencing that they are being alerted by our Border Patrol...or other agencies...

Pretty serious allegations.

Someone should have told Tancredo, eh?

Sheesh, it's a phony report (pure Marxist propaganda), but it sure is exposing a lot of hothead idiot trolls.

Hotheads, maybe...but trolls? C'mon! Tancredo? Malkin? Glenn Reynolds? Hinderacker? The National Review?

The CPB was caught contradicting itself, and its statement claiming 'inaccuracy' was carefully parsed, check this out...

Is the U.S. Giving Mexico Intelligence about Americans?

Mexico is a friend of the US. If there were some quasi-police unit running up and down on Mexico's side, I'd hope they'd tip us off, too.

Roooiiight....

Vincente Fox? Our "friend"? I don't theeeeenk so....

"And don't discount the possibility of "friendly fire" if all else fails to drive them off of the border. "

There are more than enough former and retired Vets in the US to go down to the border and shoot back.

Might be the one way to get the American Military presence on the border.

Unlike some, I don't need a web site and/or talking head to tell me what I can figure out myself.

Thanks for the yeoman's work debunking the spin being put out by the government, now trying madly to reverse field...contradicting its own spokesmen's previous statements.

The Mexican government sources are devastating to the DHS credibility.

She's been grinding the same axe for a long time...very much like the one source within the Border Patrol she identifies.

What axe pray tell would that be?

That we are condoning lawlessness from the top? That we have a conscious policy of duplicity? This is Not news, and these are basically indisputable facts.

So whether she or her DHS source is axe-sharpening or not...it would appear to be an accurate axe! One that conforms to the Mexican Governmental web sites!

If the illegal invasion were not such a major issue for the United States at this time, if the border were sealed and illegals deported according to law, the Minutemen would not exist and we would be going about other important business in this Nation.

However, the illegal invasion has reached the tipping point, American patriots are awakening, speaking up and taking action. The Minutemen are in the limelight, and are also a lightning rod for the issue. They exist partly because Border Patrol has been chronically underfunded.

Since our patriotic movement is gaining attention, and even a little bit of support in Congress... Tancredo, Sensenbrenner, Hunter, Rohrabacher, Sessions, Coburn, Lott... inevitably, there is going to be jealousy from the peanut gallery. Enter the FROBLs.

The transparent tactics of the FROBLs, whatever they SEEM to be saying, are based on the premise of disrupting the discussion by belittling the issue in a variety of ways, and arousing emotions by way of personal attacks. We've seen it all. They have no intention of honest debate.

And we only need, as many did last night, to bring the discussion back where where it belongs: to the facts and the heart of issue. I'm proud to be in this fight with all of you.

I lament that our sister, Serenissima Venezia, was banned yesterday. I haven't seen or heard the cause for that and I'm very disappointed to see such extreme action taken against one of our best patriots. So, I'm pingin' ya anyway, SV!!

Before any FROBLs respond to this, think twice, check my posts and think twice again.

Interesting how the Dems are probably in favor of illegal immigration and this whole process of working against the minutemen, yet they will be all over this (pretending to support the minutemen) if they think it will hurt Bush (which I believe it will). This illegal immigration issue is driving people away from the GOP in droves. Sadly, many of them will either stay home during the next election or vote Democrat, which will ensure that the illegal immigration will continue cause the Dems DAMNED sure won't do a thing about it.

Not just "Mexican websites"...they are the Mexican Government's official websites.

What possible stake do they have in lying or exaggerating on this issue...?

Hi, CeeCee!

I'm waiting to find out more re the allegations and claims made in the article and on the Mexican website.

Our sis, nicmarlo, has been translating the 3 documents. She already found the claims posted on the Mexican website are over one year old.

In the meantime, we still have a porous border. Thankfully, some state and local governments are starting to lay down the law, even if the feds are dragging their feet.

I am uncomfortable with our government's non-denial denial of elements in the story. If it is patently false, why do they not clearly request the paper to print a retraction?
