I'm more upset with Conservatives than I am with George W. Bush

Posted on 05/08/2006 7:04:26 PM PDT by mwfsu84

If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?

If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?

If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?

Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.

And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.

So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.

If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?

George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.

If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.

I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.

Can you imagine what these walk on water conservatives would have done to Reagan?? You can just hear the McGovern comparisons for raising taxes in the tax bill.

Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters

Don't worry. The idea has more merit than most of what I've seen posted here.

Yeah, well just be upset. I'll vote Republican, like I have a choice? But they'll not be gettin' a dime in the letters I already send. I prefer a slow death to a quick one.

It's already too late for this country, some people are just too stupid to realize yet.

Why? For multiple reasons. 1) It's never going to happen. 2) The only way for it to happen is to forbid incumbents from running which would be non-democratic. 3) There are a LOT of good incumbents. 4) It's a stupid solution. If I have a spot on a shirt, I don't throw the shirt out, I wash it.

When kids do not act the way you wish them to one doesn't reward them. One punishes them. Since those in DC are not listining to the majority of the voters what should we do?

That is a sensible approach. If left unchecked, these children have the ability to screw things up beyond recognition. However, in punishing the unruly little punks, one must also be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. The goal is gain ground in advancing conservatism. Illegal immigration coming to the forefront is a good thing- it makes us all aware of the problem and of the urgent need to for a solution. However, to avoid the risk of losing ground to liberalism, you can make the point over the long haul- over several election cycles if necessary. Write your congressmen and express your displeasure. Let them know you are aware of their actions and in tune with how to get them replaced over time. Eventually (hopefully soon, though it may be a very long time from now) enough of these men and women in government will get a clue or get out, and our nation will be better for it. It is a long frustrating process, but that is often the case when dealing with children.

The Republicans are idiots when it comes to communicating strategy.

Lets be honest about it. The Republicans have never been able to communicate a strategy other than to the politically literate. It is complicated. Reagan managed to project an image through his charisma even though his strategy was far more complex than most comprehended. That "messenger" is a rare thing.

The Democrats, through the mainstream media, have always controlled the terms of debate. As of lately, the MSM has kicked into high gear. We'll see what happens in November.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I was gonna say that you might have missed some of my previous posts on FR, but, after having read #166, even I can't hold a candle to that.

People Politicians aren't as conservative as we want.

It does occur to you that both parties can be less conservative than the population at large, doesn't it? There are a number of reasons for that that I'd be happy to go into, if you don't see how this can be.

You're wasting your time. Some people don't seem to care that the Republican Party, in its current state, will bring us to the same demise as the Democratic Party, only at a slower rate. A Republican controlled House and Senate, not to mention the White Hose, and we have more useless social programs, spending, and illegal immigration than ever. The important thing for these people seems to be only that it be their party, the Republicans, to be the ones driving us off of a cliff, and not the Democrats. The Republicans will drive us over the edge slower don't ya know?

I have still yet to hear anyone answer as to why exactly they think the Republicans will get their act together and actually start acting like conservatives if people will continue to blindly vote for them. Still waiting for an answer to that one....

Some of the items in your reply I have to respond to.

"No ANWR oil drilling?"

The US House passed a bill allowing ANWR drilling.

"No immigration bill?" The US House passed a bill on immigration making it a felony to be here illegally.

"No border security?"

The number of border patrol agents has increased something like 40% since Bush came to power (he didn't veto it). There has been electronic devices put along both the northern and southern borders to be able to tell where the illegals are coming accross at. Also, millions have been deported back home.

It really doesn't matter, pal. This is not Israel or Italy where a political party can make a difference. Here a political party (one of the two, or more like one and a half) must appeal to the most voters, and that is its only program. Everything else, an illusion, and a kind of exercise in fandom. It's the fans of Arthur Fiedler versus the fans of Lawrence Welk, fans of Coke versus the fans of Pepsi. The POTUS, whoever he is, if he's from "your" party, is worshipped in a way that even Catholics don't worship the pontiff. (See the daily photo licking threads on this very forum.)

Despite the common hallucination here, Toon didn't bring us Communism or even Socialism during his reighn of terror, and W is not bringing a Libertarian paradise either.

I think people idolize Reagan too much. He was a great president. He was not, however, a god. As I recall, did he not sign an amnesty? Didn't he put Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court? He wasn't perfect and neither is President Bush. But they're both great CONSERVATIVE presidents.

Gosh, you don't seem to be getting many replies. Thought I'd send a comment just so you'd know your post (which is really good) is actually appearing on computer screens other than your own. I guess the malcontents don't want to be bothered by the facts.
