If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?
If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?
If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?
Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.
And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.
So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.
If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?
George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.
It's kinda funny. I overheard a democratic strategist explaining that the GOP can win only if they allow ammnesty for millions of future voters (dem votes).
I was thinking to myself. Now why would a democratic strategist advise republicans to take a dump in the middle of their base as a means of winning?
You didn't say anything. Whining is not discussion.
After Galbreath died, I didn't figure there were any Keynesians left alive. Amazing we have a surviving specimen here on FreeRepublic.
As for me, nothing but happy content-free posting
Hillary doesn't need a Democrat control of the Congress to prepare the way to the White House as the Republican Congress and President are doing a good enough job for her.
Evidence that the threat isn't being felt strongly enough yet.
It's evidence of two things;
1. People aren't as conservative as we want.
2. Conservatives don't know how to direct their energy constructively.
One issue? Are you kidding me? The Republicans allowed themselves to get torn to shreds on Social Security without allowing much as a sneeze. They are in the process of looking like leftist idiots on immigration. And they continually allow themselves to be torn apart by the Democrats when it comes to the War on Terror and Iraq. On the latest issue, oil, they are doing the same--looking the other way while the Democrats attack like buzzards on a corpse.
Yeah, when it comes to social security, Iraq and Afghanistan, and oil... the Republicans are largely on the correct end of the arguments. Too bad they cannot communicate any of this to the American populace because they are not letting themselves be heard over the shreaks of Schumer and Pelosi. The Republicans are idiots when it comes to communicating strategy.
Will a Democrat house look that much different than a Republican house? Not really, they still won't be able to get much done. If they really want to shoot themselves in the foot, they can try to impeach Bush... I'm much more pissed off about the lack of fight in the Republican dog than the message itself.
AMEN
Oh, this ol' river keeps on rollin', though, No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow, And as long as it does I'll just sit here And watch the river flow.

What a Maroon
You, my friend, have your head firmly buried in the sand.
It's not about thinking they can win. It's about trying to make a statement that they're politically more pure, and that by being attention whores, they'll somehow change the political process for the better.
Never mind that that notion has been disproved every time in the last 150 years. These Don Quixotes actually think they make a positive difference.
If they had an ounce of sense, they'd know they usually make no difference, and when they do, it's negative.
I don't so excuse me if I'm not inclined to fight for them.
MikeW USAF:
My feeling is, before 9.11.2001, we were fighting a defensive war against terrorism...terrorists would attack and our response would be muted...if at all. Since 9.11, we are fighting an offensive war. WE are now in the terrorists' face.
I could be wrong about this, but I think the Islamofascists are too busy get their butts kicked in the ME to worry about Mexico.
Don't bother.
You're making too much sense for many people here, who would rather have a Donkeycrat Congress and President because their Messiah-like "gold-standard perfect lower-case conservative" is unlikely to become a reality anytime soon.
Let them.
They're engaged in a weenie-measuring match to see who's more "conservative" than the other, even if it means counting how many times blasting Presiden Bush for being a "soft liberal" and how many times you can shout "Mexico is invading. Deport them all!!!"
They're like that.
They'll prove to be their own undoing.
Meanwhile, can you spell "Madam Speaker Pelosi"???
