Is ecosabotage terrorism?
The Seattle Times ^ | May 7 | Hal Bernton

Posted on 05/07/2006 1:23:05 PM PDT by PghBaldy

Who is a terrorist? After the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people, it was clean-cut Timothy McVeigh, a brooding loner — infused with hatred of the government — who was convicted and put to death for that crime.

Interesting who they chose for first paragraph. It ends with the Southern Poverty Law Center saying it's still the McVeigh types who are the top domestic threat. I wonder if the Times realizes these ecoterrorists are swarming allover the Pacific NW, and they are a threat to anyone living there, IMO?

Is the Seattle Times trying to find a way to justify what the ELF is doing?

It appears so. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed. They will ump the ante, OR, fireman or police will be killed responding to the arsons. I have no doubt.

There is nothing romantic hero-istic about McVegh, UBL or ELF.

They all intend to destroy property with the acceptable risk of human collateral damage as a means to psychological warfare.

Is ecosabotage terrorism?

This has to be a trick question...
but yes, it is terrorism.

And sometimes comically mis-executed.
IIRC, the earth-firsters (or one of their fellow-travelers)
trashed a field of corn at a university field station in California,
protesting genetically-engineered corn.

Only problem...the field was full of nothing by regular, "old-school"
corn.

(which of course was a product of pre-historic genetic engineering, via
plant breeding)

Glad to see a movie that indoctrinates kids on ecoterrorism, Hoot, only made $3.4m despite showing in more than 3,000 screens. I think Disney and Walden over-estimated themselves after Narnia success.

It is amazing how little the media covers these people. Some of the destruction they've carried out was massive. Compare the coverage of church burnings during the Clinton years (which later turned out NOT to be terror, or hate induced...) If Clinton would have labelled those terrorism, I am sure the Seattle Times would have approved. Thanks for the funny corn story...

Having met a few eco-terrorists myself, I know a little about how they think. They are quick to violent solutions to problems by regarding the existing political system as corrupt and themselves as above the law, are throughly brainwashed by supportive propaganda, and view most non-fundamentalist environmentalists humans as completely expendable.

I suppose I'm as big of a Disney fan as any, bigger than most, smaller than the OC Disorder crowd. But, I drew the line at this movie. I will not watch it, rent it, nor contribute a dime of my finances to support it. I hope Disney loses their shirt on this. And that is the way things ought to be.

IF Disney eats $10-20 Million selling something the public whole-heartedly rejects, but makes $150 Million on something the public loves; even senior managment can do elementary math. Disney answers to the board members, who in turn answer to the stock market. Make money, and your stock goes up. Lose money, and your stock goes down; Presidents, VP's and Directors get fired, and a new path is chosen. Yup, it's that simple.
