Current poll:
"A time for choosing: It appears that a significant number of our members are so disgusted with the GOP's failure to secure our borders against illegal aliens that they are willing to risk all by voting them out of office, even if it means Pelosi, Reid, Hillary, et al, are allowed to take charge. Is this the best course of action or should we be working harder than ever to hold the line and actually try to make a difference by getting more constitutionally-minded conservatives elected? Are you willing to give it all up or are you more determined than ever to keep the Marxists out of power?" _____
So far, 13% of members and 18%+ of participants in this poll say - turn it over to the rats. What's with that? I cannot believe that 13% of those posting here are so stupid or angry with what is happening that they would turn to the rats for the way back to perfect. Now, 13% will result in a winning vote, in a lot of cases.
Anyway, I guess that there is no compromising for some people - just dig a hole and live there while the rats are in charge. I'm so disappointed.
Mo1,
I don't think you would be handing over anything; it is just a question of cleaning up the battle lines so that we know where to make a stand. Right now the enemy within is a bigger problem then the Democratic party. I would rather elect Pelosi, then McCain or Gullianni; at least then we would have a clear enemy to unite against, and would be able to set a strategy to frustrate them and regain control.
Oh, I get it. You also think that those who disagree with you are "crackpots".
You're dreaming. Go to Berzerkley and see what I mean.
I don't disagree with your statement. However, being better than the Dems is not good enough. This country needs to return to conservative leadership and the only way for that to happen is to temporarily cede control to the Democrats. There are many conservative Republicans in power, unfortunately they are in the minority. Removing the Republicans who have sold out conservatives will provide the best opportunity for real conservatives to once again take control of this great nation.
Analyze the situation, remove emotions from the equation, and you will realize that this is really the only way that you and I can return conservatives to power.
Myself, I will vote Republican, out of sheer and undeviating intelligence. And, pragmatism.
By the way, in case you didn't know, the reason Pres. Bush is so hated by the left and libs, is because he tries to lead the country with intelligence.
Ever sat down and thought out some of the things he has promoted? Whether he can articulate the words or not, his ideas of how things should be, are usually full of plain ol' common-sense. (It's Congress that is the true culprit... and the senate when allowed to stick one in there..)
FWIW, there are some things I won't compromise on. And if it takes losing to get that message across to the Pubbies, so be it. I'll gird my loins and muddle through. Otherwise we'll have two parties without a ha'penny's worth of difference between them. And we're pretty close to that now. But I care less about party than principle. If a Dem espoused conservative values, I'd vote for the Dem. I'm not picky :)
That's not my take. What it shows are 773 (6.5%) people who would vote for Democrats (compare that to this poll, where 350 (19.1%) make a similar comment.), in answer to the poll quesion, "If the White House and GOP controlled congress does not act immediately to seal the borders, penalize employers who hire illegals and deport illegals when caught, how will it affect your vote in November?").
I will vote third party 31.8% 3,771
I will stay home 21.3% 2,530
I will vote for the Democrat 6.5% 773
I think the results also show that many people believe that the GOP doesn't take into account their concerns, based on the GOP inaction, so they may just as well stay home, which is their right, although I personally don't agree with staying home.
Although the consequences, if these poll numbers are an accurate (though non-scientific) reflection of how Americans feel, may well mean that the GOP doesn't win back a majority because it has failed to listen to its constituents, whose fault is that? Why would constituents continue to vote for the same people and expect a different result? That is the definition of insanity.
Actually no, not the vast majority.
Your faulty numbers are caused by ignoring the fact that the illegal immigration numbers have spiked in the last couple of years.
The best estimates I've seen show 3 million or so coming in the last year alone.
By the way, I believe that the Bear Stearns number of 20 million plus is a conservative estimate.
After looking at the data and traveling the country extensively the last couple of years, seeing the deep penetration of the illegal population into heretofore uninvaded territory, my personal opinion is that the current number is actually over 30 million.
During the debate over the '86 amnesty, proponents claimed that the amnesty would be granted to about a million illegals. It ended up being three times that.
I think that the same math will hold true today if we are stupid enough to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Do you know that Specter is asking for hearings about the NSA wiretapping???
THAT is something that President Bush did immediately after 9/11 to help our "security problems"...and now look at the "thanks he gets"...
Do you really believe, that him slamming the borders closed, like you say...would have happened without a HUGH backlash, already the ACLU calls him a racist just for wanting a guest worker program...
Do you also remember that none of the terrorists of 9/11 came from over the southern border...one did try to come from the northern border, bud a border control agent did her job...and stopped him. THAT might be one reason why he has concentrated what security measures he has been ALLOWED to do on other areas..for the time being..
Remember. Bush is NOT a KING....he can't order anything done...and this is one reason his OWN PARTY is questioning his every move.
I really wish so much of the vitriol WAS placed on named Congressweinies...because to blame Bush for everything is wrong and tiresome.
I'm not voting for a democrat. But I wouldn't vote for anyone like McCain, either.
1. Pulling out of Iraq prematurely, and then watch the slaughter?
2. Allowing the Islamofascists to re-group when we now have them seriously on the run.
3. Humiliating us and our military to the point in the world where we may not come back?
Suicide. Great idea......we'll all be fine and politically pure when we're decapitated.
Sam Johnson, like Zell Miller, is very old.
What the Republicans/conservatives need to do, is take a page out of the DNC handbook (I know, bite the bullet)..and go out an recruit some YOUNG Iraq veterans, Gulf or current, maybe even more Vietnam veterans that, unlike, Kerry, are patriots..
and get them to run...all races are national now...and I am sure that Freepers would work hard to get them in Congress...
I think that is more productive than looking at what "could have been", in Johnson or Miller.
You are simply incorrect. This country can survive Dems being in power for 2, 4, 6, or even 8 years. You need to remember how effective the Republicans were in opposition - this was when they stood by their principles and communicated them effectively. Bill Clinton enacted welfare reform - who would have ever thought that would happen.
Look what's happened in the last 6 years - all the things we have fought against for years have been advanced by REPUBLICANS. What makes you think that this trend will not continue??? I think everything you fear happening is more likely to happen if the Republicans stay in power.
Gosh, do you want to name the freepers that are profiting from the illegal labor???
""The best estimates I've seen show 3 million or so coming in the last year alone.""
Mexico's population would be falling if that were the case
I think I find that difficult to believe.
BINGO...you win the prize for one of the few posters that have even taken this chance to point out some positive, politically brave, things about President Bush...thank you.
""Unfortunately a 2008 Presidential candidate who is conservative and can win has yet to be found......""
Unfortunatley youre right.
I have heard something about George Allen's personal history of violence and his love for the confederate flag.
