Moonbat Mysteries

by Wayne Boettcher

It was another sunny but breezy Spring day in Tucson as I rambled toward the Military Recruitment Center at 2302 E. Speedway on May 3rd, 2006. Birds were chirping, rabbits hopping and turtles harmonizing. No, wait. That was the Turtles on the radio. All in all, a happy relaxed morning in America. The "anti-war" protesting moonbats seemed a little late on their Daylight Savings Time switchover and were only now changing their weekly start time from 9:00 am to 8:00 am. I arrived at 8:05 am to find both sides already there.

Of course, Arizona doesn't hold with Benjamin Franklin's time saving theories anyway and studiously avoids DST. And even if we did use it, you are supposed to go forward in Spring, not backwards. Their change could be because summer is hotter but would one hour make that much difference? The real reason for the moonbat time change will probably remain shrouded in mystery, as are their motivations for disrespecting the brave American heroes who fight to preserve freedom and protect our country from harm. While liberals claim to "support the troops to bring them home," they often falsely accuse them of all sorts of atrocities and some call them "murderers" in private conversation.

Left-wing revulsion is not limited to soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and President Bush, however. They also despise the Police Department. In liberal websites and forums the police are often referred to as "piggies" and other derogatory names. If any incident occurs in which the police regrettably have to use force or shoot some crazed charging addict the forums immediately buzz with accusations and assumptions of purposeful violence on the part of the law enforcement officer. Later if the officer is cleared bitter unfounded claims of cover-ups ensue. If any officer is found guilty after an investigation, it is held up as an example of how all police normally act instead of how well they watch their own ranks to ensure integrity and honesty.

Tucson has no shortage of liberals. The entire City Council except for the Mayor are Democrats, and the Republican Mayor is widely known as being rather liberal and/or wishy-washy. Although in the recent past there were two Republican council members, they were so left leaning in their philosophy and actions that Tucson Republican voters didn't bother to re-elect them, giving a perfect example of how RINO's (Republicans In Name Only) rarely win by bargaining away their ideals. When will so called Republican politicians learn that liberals never compromise their radical agenda in return and it's better to simply stand up for what's right than to incrementally give in to their constant demands? Another mystery!

But I digress. Recently an "anti-war" activist written about in a previous column called "Minor Mediator" has come before the Tucson City Council to complain that the local police and the Pro-American troop supporters are oppressing him and the other moonbats! This is the same wacky dude who, when told by a minor's father not to speak to his high school age son at a protest, refused. Minutes later, he also refused a police order to cease harassing the minor. Yes, it does seem as if there are police problems - they keep enforcing the law to protect minors! Bad cop! No doughnut!

Internet searches of the activist's name reveal a news story about a New York inauguration protest. There he climbed a light pole and refused come down when police ordered him to. Even before this guy started showing up on Wednesdays, however, the moonbat side showed a predilection for breaking the law. One time they placed an A frame sign on a median. Informed this was illegal, they smugly left it there. Only when the police ordered them to remove it or lose it did they grumpily comply with the law. This Wednesday they left numerous large signs unattended, leaning them against trees and such, which is also against the law. The police did not attend this time, however; neither did the complainer that I could see. An observer from a City Council member was said to be unfriendly to Pro-Americans but I did not get a chance to speak with him.

Of course, we are all aware of liberal hypocrisy and fantastic claims - we see it every day. Jet setting liberal elite demand we cease using SUV's. Democrat politicians who previously advocated for tremendous gas taxes while blocking oil drilling and refining now bemoan our existing gas prices. "Anti-war" protesters who conveniently didn't notice President Clinton's many bizarre military actions complain about real engagements that serve an important purpose. But is it really hypocrisy if liberals wanted to use American forces to install a Communist dictator in Haiti as Clinton accomplished? Yes, because they now claim to be against any and all war and oppose "interfering" with other countries. But that is a story for another column.

The "Raging Grannies" of Tucson are rather famous for intentionally breaking the law to get arrested some time ago, crashing into the US Army recruiting office while pretending to "enlist." Yet all charges of trespassing were dropped. As well the lawbreaking "World Can't Wait" organization (said to be a front group of "Revolutionary Communist Party") illegally encourages high school students to ditch school for it's rallies with impunity, as do radical left wing illegal immigrant protest groups in larger numbers. One admittedly infrequent Wednesday morning liberal attendee challenges Pro-Americans to fistfights, and tirades of cursing and yelling are occasionally proffered by the groovy peace activists.

With all this going on, what would they consider us to be doing wrong? The main complaint of how the moonbats are being oppressed by Pro-Americans comprises yet another enigma. What is this evil thing we have done to those who rarely concede the very existance of evil? Apparently this: we stand on the sidewalk in front of the Military Recruitment Center Wednesday mornings exercising free speech with signs and flags. According to them, they have been coming to this sidewalk for years with no opposition, and therefore it is "their place" and not ours. Although the law of homesteading does not apply in this case, liberals feel it should. And perhaps it will.

The Tucson City Council is notorious for their contempt of the First Amendment of the US Constitution. As related in the case of Gentala vs. City of Tucson, the city enacted a policy boldly proclaiming that Christian non-profit groups would not receive a waiver of park fees while other non-profit groups would. (The Gentalas coordinated a "National Day of Prayer" with nine churches in 1997 and were charged $340.) The case dragged on for years, going to the Supreme Court and then all the way back to the Tucson Federal Court but the cash strapped City of Tucson was willing to expend any amount of taxpayer funds and legal resources to accomplish their goal of discrimination.

When I occasionally called over the years and asked the City how much they were spending on the case, the reply from the legal department and several council members was always that they didn't keep track of those expenses! Finally the City lost the case in 2003, but not for lack of trying. To crassly get around the judge's ruling, they immediately enacted another policy limiting the number of park fees waived for events in city parks while naming their chosen favorites. This year's National Day of Prayer organizers were charged $1,600 for use of the park, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

Based on this crazy case, I believe the City of Tucson conceivably could enact new policies or laws limiting First Amendment rights for Pro-Americans but not for "anti-war" protesters. But will they? Only time will solve that puzzle. This Wednesday things were quiet, with moonbats packing up their crudely lettered tree leaning cardboard box signs quickly at about 9:00 am. One late staying "anti-war" lady professed shock that many on her side were admitted Communists and accepted some handouts from me. She also reported she did not know Code Pink is falsely claiming our soldiers skin Iraqi prisoners alive with hot irons. "See you next week," she proclaimed brightly as she left. I explained that I don't make it every Wednesday as I often have to work on that day. But whenever possible I will stand up for our brave troops and their mission with signs and flags, and stand up for America!

More information for expanded FReeper report:

1. I was able to stand a short distance in front of the moonbats with "say no to communism" with "don't believe left-wing propaganda and lies" on the other side most of the time.

2. The strip mall also has an office for the local University who complained about megaphones and loud music so we are voluntarily keeping it down. However, I didn't find out till the end of the protest so a few amplified songs and statements were made. I was down the street, though.

3. A resident lady came to complain about noise, but it was mostly honking she was talking about. She believes in free speech but wishes she had never moved there. I gave her a liberal website to write to and ask the moonbats to stop coming, explaining if they weren't there lying about the troops every Wednesday, we wouldn't have to be there, either.

4. A fun Protest Warrior joke might be to have a sign "Our troops skin prisoners alive with hot irons" and stand with the moonbats to see what happens. If they complain just mention the standing ovation they gave Eman Ahmed Khamas!

You are to be commended.

I wish I lived closer so I could join you. I'm retired and live on a mountain in North Georgia and do a bit of community volunteer work.

I went into the Navy from that very office in 1981. I've never noticed any of these moonbats myself but its still nice to know you are out there countering them. Perhaps I'll show up one of these days just to let the treasonous louts know they are not unopposed.

You would find of lot of great people and veterans there and would have a lot of fun! You don't need to bring a sign..."General" Pat has many extra! However, it is fun to make your own! Hurry before it becomes illegal!
