Cops: Kennedy Was Under Influence
The Smoking Gun ^ | May 5, 2006 | Staff

MAY 5--Here's the official Capitol Hill Police report on yesterday's early-morning crash involving a disoriented Patrick Kennedy. According to cops, the Rhode Island Democrat (and son of Senator Ted Kennedy) appeared unsteady on his feet, had red and watery eyes, and had slightly slurred speech upon exiting his Ford Mustang after crashing the vehicle into a barricade near Capitol Hill. The reporting officer checked off a box indicating that Kennedy was under the influence of alcohol and that the politician's ability was "impaired." Kennedy, 39, has denied that alcohol was involved in the 2:45 AM accident, claiming instead that he was left disoriented by a reaction to the prescription drugs Abien, a sleep aid, and Phenergan, an antihistamine. Both drugs carry warnings that alcohol, taken in conjunction with the medications, may increase drowsiness and dizziness. Following the accident, Kennedy was driven home by police, who did not administer any field sobriety tests to the six-term congressman. (5 pages

Like the joke about the four college dudes who were out drinking till the wee hours and were all late to the semester final. They tell the professor they ewre late because they had a flat tire on the way in.

So, the professor agrees to give them a make-up exam the next day. When they arrive for the test, the prof puts them in four separate rooms. They open the exam book, which consists of a single question: Which tire?

THE best post I saw this morning was: "The olive doesn't roll far from the martini glass."

Well look at the good news though. At least this Kennedy didn't kill anyone.

Right?

Phenergan is some really strong stuff. My hubby's a big guy...6'5", 265 lbs...and one dose of Phenergan knocked him solidly on his arse for a full day. That was the first and last dose he'd ever taken...he decided throwing up was preferable.

I can understand. When I broke my ankle a few years back, I was given a prescription pain reliever (can't remember the name now) that not only warned, "do not drive or operate machinery", but also, "do not sign any contracts." I had never seen a warning like that before. I took one pill -- didn't make me sleep, but it did turn me into a zombie. That was enough. I tossed those pills.

No later than Monday, he's going to admit "a problem" and announce that he's "seeking treatment, for his family's sake."

Exactly.

From a post of mine on another thread:

Isn't that what they always do? It's SOP for the Kennedys.

First they have to call ALL their advisors in and brainstorm how to handle it; then he'll come on TV, probably in a living room setting, and have a "heart to heart" talk with all of the country.

I'm so tired of this long therapy session we've had with this family for the last 30 plus years.

It's too bad Burke Marshall is dead, isn't it?

"No way. I really believed that he was rushing to Congress for a critical floor vote at 3 in the morning. "

As I understnd it if you are in the act of working you are immune from any prosecution.

I mean, the Abien is meant to make you SLEEP.

Phenergan can knock a person on his arse, too. When my wife takes half a dose to combat extreme nausea brought on by migraine headaches, it typically puts her to sleep for an hour or two.

Drunks have 3 choices:
1) Sobered up.
2) Locked up.
3) Covered up.(with dirt)

Exactly right and choice No. 4:

Some innocent pedestrian or other driver is covered up with dirt because of a drunk driver.

Anyone here who's ever been pulled over for suspicion of DUI and had the cops drive them home, after admitting on the incident report that you were impaired?

I didn't think so. Rank has its privileges.

Just tuned in Rush. He says credible sources now have Kennedy's bar tab from Wednesday night.

So, it will probably be released soon. He lied. Now he is getting caught.

You are correct on both counts. This is known as the super stuper duper drunken buy off! I wonder if you or I were stopped we would be offered a ride home by the officer(s) and not given any citations. Oh, sorry my ambien made me a little demented. I apologize for my prior sentence. /sarcasm/

Phenergan as an antihistamine? I use it for anti-nausea. Using it for sniffles is kind of like killing a fly with a sledgehammer. That stuff will knock you on you butt in no time flat!
