Admitted using 2 drugs.
Don't police routinely video traffic stops and this kind of stuff from dash mounted camera? That won't appear on the 6 o'clock news. /src

The key to finding any fault with Kennedy's acts is to know whether or not he was drunk. Naturally, he lies about being drunk saying that he was on meds and did not consume alcohol. Whether he was drunk could have been easily established.

Even without a breath test any experienced cop looking at a driver who just crashed a car into a barrier with, red eyes, who staggers, has slurred speech, seems disoriented, and makes irrational statements such as "I was on my way to vote in the House of Representatives" (at 3:00 AM) is clearly drunk.

Any ordinary citizen in such a situation would be arrested and booked. Kennedy was released and given a ride home in the police car. We don't know if he was even ticketed.

I'd say there are serious signposts of substance abuse here.

>>>Yes. Was your dad's doc notified? The xanax enabled your dad to drive. I'm sure that was the docs opinion and he should have been their to put the malicious prosecutors in their place.>>>

No, had I known his lawyer was not the best at the time, I would have. But what's done is done.

>>>I can't believe the judge didn't throw out the charge. If not for the Xanax, your dad would likely have not been alive to drive.>>>

You would have thought... but this IS Georgia we are talking about here.

"According to cops, the Rhode Island Democrat (and son of Senator Ted Kennedy) appeared unsteady on his feet, had red and watery eyes, and had slightly slurred speech..."

The apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree, this putz is a ringer for his sorry, no-count daddy!

My father was convicted of DWI for having a heart attack while driving and they found Xanax (prescribed to him) from the PRIOR night in his system.

I'm not knocking your dad and I'm sory tyhis was done to him, but he must have had the worlds dumbest lawyer in court. A doctors statement should have had the charge tossed.

Xanax has a usefullness or bloodstream active life of no more than 8 hours tops actually closer to 6. The residue bloodstream life may be longer but it would have zero effect on the person.

I take 4 of them a day and drive every day. No wrecks, one speeding ticket, but no problem driving taking Xanax. Actually I can't drive without it. It's supposed to be the doctors and the patients descretion whether or not a person can drive taking it. IOW wheter or not that person will be impaired. Someone who uses Xanax on a regular basis is less likely to be impaired as the body adjust to it. For that matter the cops could issues tickets for taking SSRI's etc as well.

Xanax used for treating sensory disorder induced anxiety, used for heart patients, but it's also used to treat certain forms of seizures. The case should have been tossed. I've been stopped before and asked if I had any medications on me etc and I say yes and show the prescription. No problem. I've taken it 12 years.

The dosage your dad would have been taking was likely .5mg. If he was taking more than that strength just once a day he'd be having some major problems from chemistry swings. .5mg isn't gonna make him stoned. Heck I can take 1-1.5 mg within 30 minutes time and not feel it. Xanax doesn't do a person like Valium does. Dumb cop dumber judge.

Either way, he was driving while intoxicated, that is ILLEGAL.
Absolutely.

And he lied to the cop about having a vote to make, as well.

And his story changes . . . last I heard, he was claiming to have been on pain killers. And doesn't remember (now where have I heard that before, Hillary?) getting up, the crash, or being ticketed. And he's going into rehab. And people should understand that he's battled depression and drugs all his life. And he has done wonders to raise awareness of the problems people face.

It's enough to make you wonder if in all of Rhode Island there isn't one sober person they could elect to Congress. But that question doesn't matter - he's entitled to a seat in Congresss, if not the presidency, 'cause his granddaddy was Joe Kennedy. </sarcasm>
