Bill would ban people from smoking while children in the car
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Parents would have to stub out their cigarettes while their kids are in the car, under a bill headed to the Senate for debate.
The bill would prohibit anyone from lighting up a cigarette, cigar or pipe in a vehicle while a child required to be in a booster seat or car seat is riding along _ a child up to 60 pounds, or up to about eight years old.
The House approved the bill in a 66-31 vote.
Rep. Gary Smith, D-Norco, said he introduced the measure because he wants to prevent health problems that children can have from second hand smoke inhalation. He said children don't get a choice in whose cars they ride.
"I'm just trying to protect those who cannot protect themselves," he said.
Rep. Carla Dartez, D-Morgan City, said the bill infringes upon parents' rights to raise their children.
"I just think you're going a little too far in this Legislature when we can't allow parents of their own children to take care of their own children," she said.

I believe that people have the right to smoke. I believe that people have a right to drink alcohol but it is now a felony in most states to drink and drive with a child in the car. This might surprise you but in all 50 states it's against the law for adults to sexually molest little children also.
But then, who gives a crap about the kids as long as adults do what makes them feel good.

I think what it is, to some men over here, I am too strong for them and they can't pull the wool over my eyes. This type of man likes little "yes dear" women. I loved waiting on my guy, but I never put up with any guff, either. And that's why the some guys over here hate me.
Don't smoke when you are within 24 hours of having a child? that is nuts.
Hopefully though parents don't need to be told not to smoke around children.

So are you just gonna distort everything posted by anybody who is pro-smoking enough?
What I said was that hopefully smokers are already not smoking around children - I personally cannot imagine doing that to a child - there was nothing in my post about suggesting additional regulation.
