Anyone know where they're sending him?

Not only will we pay for him... but Islamist have a bargaining chip... will, maybe not... he did fail on his part. He wouldn't have been a martyr if they offed him... he didn't succeed.

Here's to a fragging before he infects more prisoners... oh I forgot, they already have imams in the prisons for that.

The same way John Adams lived with himself when he defended the British soldiers responsible for the Boston massacre.

There's one big difference between John Adams and these defense lawyers: Adams' clients hadn't plotted to commit murder. According to David McCullough's biography of Adams, the British soldiers weren't responsible for the riot. A group of 8 soldiers was cornered by a group of colonists, who began pelting them with oyster shells, stones, snowballs, etc. The colonists closed in on the soldiers, two of whom fired at them in self-defense, killing them.

I understand the point you're making about everyone deserving a fair trial. But the defense attorneys in this case shouldn't be celebrating their victory in keeping their client from the death penalty. They should be soberly reflecting on the fact that doing their job has in this case resulted in sparing the life of an evil man who would be happy to see every American, including his own defense attorneys, be murdered.

In my opinion, the law has been upheld, but the higher good has not been served.

you wouldn't think that way if you were the one innocent.

You presented a preposterous hypothetical scenario: let one innocent person die, or let 1000 murders back on the street to kill again. Nobody wants innocent people to die. But you sound like one of those people that is pro-criminal and opposed to criminal justice in general.

Aren't you the same poster who said you wouldn't pay money to see United 93 unless all the profits went to the victims' family members? Apologies in advance if I've mistaken you for someone else.

Yeah, right. You might try actually looking at the evidence the jury saw and heard, i.e. the facts? BTW, the judge thought he was lying too. But then, the judge didn't have the benefit of this thread - just looking at that all that pesky evidence.

I think ideally executions would take place within 1 year of the sentence, but the reason that I oppose the death penalty is the chance of executing an innocent. I believe that with as many executions as we have carried out in this country since 1976, we have almost certainly executed at least a couple. And that is unacceptable to me. As the saying goes, I would rather see 1000 murderers go free than have one innocent be executed. With the death penalty, if DNA evidence is later found proving the innocence of someone, or another person is linked to the crime through DNA, then you cannot reverse the execution. Just think about it.

You are contradicting yourself all over the place! ROFL! You say that you oppose the death penalty but you also think that "ideally executions would take place within 1 year of the sentence". Do you even see what you're saying?

You are against death penalty because someone who is innocent MIGHT be executed. But on the other hand, you want them excuted within one year which would of course deny them the possibility of having their case reviewed or appealed. Amazing logic there, iltc. Me thinks you're a little one.

He will be out in 10 years.

Great job by the jury. They have just proved to our enemies that we do not have the will to win the war.

Sheesh, my husband and I have a home mortgage, eat, pay taxes, insurances, etc., etc. and we're not anywhere near $100,000/yr.!

Do you and your husband live in a maximum security prison with round the clock guards and other prison staff and state of the art surveillance technology and other features?

No. I thought not. Hence $100,000/yr.

Were the innocent "innocent" of any crime (including murders) or just the case they were sentenced for?

Gary Graham was not prosecuted for his multiple murders. Such cases can be expensive to prosecute. Get one conviction and they are "done" with it. He shot one of his victims through the jaw. But that victim lived to testify.

But since Gary was unsuccessful in that attempt, it wasn't "murder". There were other cases. But the defenders of Gary Graham (and his was one of the high profile celebrity causes) were unhappy with some details of the case he had been sentenced for.

Any doubt that he was guilty of murder? Or are we going to haggle over which murder?

I don't believe in using the death penalty lightly.

I DO believe that the death penalty should be an option in some vote fraud cases. There is no crime more in violation of the principles of this nation.

BTW, do you think that Moussaoui is guilty of the charges against him?

While I am strongly in favor of the death penalty, in this case I think the verdict is okay. With the death penalty, this guy would be a martyr for the AQ cause. Now, he's just a stinkin' turd tucked away in a dank corner at Leavenworth. He will watch as his AQ colleagues are smoked out and destroyed over the next 50 to 60 years.

You make a good point about the defense attorneys, they were celebrating too much for my taste.
