Polls: Citizens losing sympathy for illegal immigrants By Laura Crimaldi Monday, May 1, 2006
New national polls show Americans are feeling less sympathy toward undocumented workers and have serious doubts the government can fix the country’s massive immigration problem. Recent Zogby International polls show the immigration protests in March left three in five adults feeling less compassionate toward undocumented workers. Even 46 percent of the Hispanic respondents said they are less likely to be sympathetic to the cause of immigrants as a result of the protests. The Zogby poll also shows 18 percent of respondents believe Congress and President Bush will not come up with a solution to the problem of undocumented workers. The survey included 7,967 respondents nationwide and was conducted between March 31 and April 3. A separate poll conducted by Harris Interactive shows a majority of Americans favor an immigration policy that would grant special treatment to the children and spouses of U.S. citizens, with 73 percent of those polled giving the thumbs-up to children and 67 percent giving preference to spouses. That poll reached 2,377 U.S. adults who were surveyed online between April 11 and 17. Fluency in English and job skills topped the list of factors the majority of Harris poll respondents want the government to weigh in determining whether an immigrant can enter this country, the poll results said.
You are not reading it correctly. Citizens are coerced by criminals that get to choose what laws they will obey. Thus the illegal alien chooses not to obey the law like the murderer, rapist or robber. All these offenses are against the people as well as an individual, there is always a coerced party, only leftists will pretend there is not, as the lefties cannot commit any crime, after all they are lefties. Conservatives on the other hand, well every act is a crime.

I often wonder what would happen if "citizens" just stopped paying taxes (hypothetically, of course). I mean, it's not like the government is doing their job or anything, or even enforcing the law.
It seems that the mob mentality can get away with anything, especially if that mob is anti-American, wants to hurt the American economy, disregard its laws and wants to break up the union.
It's mind boggling (and embarrassing) to see the idiocy of the current immigration situation. THE PATIENTS ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM.

My girlfriend's car was destroyed by drunk-ass illegal alien. And what did the local cops do? Absolutely NOTHING.
If one of us had done something like that, we would have been arrested and subsequently nailed to the wall both legally and financially.
But since it was an illegal alien who did it, they get nothing - HE WAS NOT EVEN ARRESTED!!!

I would like to know who these maroons are who had sympathy to "lose" in the first place? Did these simpletons feel bad because, in addition to paying for illegal aliens to overrun our schools and emergency rooms, we taxpayers didn't provide them with four-bedroom split-levels?
Your explicitly stating that your first sentence was hypothetical speaks volumes about the fear that we Americans now feel towards our own government.
But I agree with you - if the illegals don't have to respect the law, then why should we?
That's not right. The bedrock of our civilization is that all men and women are equal under the law, and as such, the law is to be applied equally regardless of race or creed.
What is the primary purpose of a government than to uphold its civilization?
According to our most revered founding document, the Declaration of Independence, "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it".
From the polls on this subject, our government's domestic policy, the one that affects us RIGHT HERE AT HOME, is CLEARLY no longer according to the Consent of the Governed.
Our government, or rather the individuals from the two parties and the flunkies comprising its bureaucracy, are now so power-drunk from graft, thievery, corruption, and arrogance, that how We The People think the country should be run is to them nothing but an afterthought, to be reminded about for the cameras by their spin-doctors come election season.

Draka, that's what I don't understand-- my sleepy Southern city has all the usual problems with this invasion of illegal aliens, but in the last few years, maybe the biggest impact is from "car wrecks involving presumed illegal aliens who run away..."
A typical story of a woman friend was, "I passed the intersection at Palmetto Florist's location, a car ran the stop sign and T-boned me.
All four occupants of the car- dark-skinned men in tee-shirts and backwards baseball caps- jumped out and ran away.
The police said 'there's nothing we can do...'"
I can't puzzle this out-- there is a paper trail associated with vehicles, and if you can't locate the current owner, you can certainly locate the guy who sold it to him.
I garan-dam-tee you that if I failed to obey a stop sign or traffic light, ran an intersection, and wrecked another car, I'd be neck-deep in hot water.
It sounds to me like the Police have been warned off of pursuing these cases.
