UNITED 93 FReeper Reviews
self | April 28, 2006 | RobFromGa

Posted on 04/28/2006 1:21:50 PM PDT by RobFromGa

Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.

It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.

The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.

In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.

There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.

Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.

I give in 9.5/10!

I saw them more as driven by an external evil force than as intrinsically evil.

IMHO, that is the point. Until the nature and name of the enemy are identified...we will strike at phantoms.

I don't believe killing jihadis will make a dent in this war. Each jihadi is like a tooth of a great white...remove one and there are many to replace it.

The enemy is a strain of islam...in fact it is the spiritual force behind islam.

To paraphrase Sun Tzu, " if one can't identify the enemy, one cannot kill the enemy."

Thank you finnman for taking the time to post your thoughts and feelings on '93. A lot of it mirrored my own and it was rather cathartic to read. I want to see it again. I know I will buy the DVD but I would like to see it in theater again. There was so much to absorb as you so clearly wrote.

Yeah, I heard there were only a little less than 1200 theaters in the initial showing. Most releases are about 3 times as big. I'm surprised.

I'm disgusted. People need to see this movie.

And for us in Australia to have to wait until August to see this movie, is just wrong. I'm going to engage in a bit of an email-writing campaign of my own, to try and get the distributors to move it up.

They'll probably tell me it's "not relevant" to Australia, which is utter garbage. Many Australians sat up all night in horror as the news unfolded on September 11, 2001 (it happened late at night, our time), and by the time I went to bed, just before dawn, I could hear the rumble of airforce planes in the distance (I live near Australia's largest airforce base). Australia still has troops in Afghanistan and Iraq... people need to remember what we're fighting for.

United 93 is much better than Flight 93

Day and night. United 93 IS what happened. Flight 93 was bad made for TV drama.

That is so right. And if the administration and the lefties pretend it is a complicated problem (such that islam is a benevolent if hijacked religion)...we will suffer mightily.

The enemy is islam. We must define its bullseye and aim our strength at its heart.

Islam is the anti-freedom, anti-life, anti-God...force. If it lives...we will die.

Good to hear that you got it, that you understand.

I emailed my senator last night. In it I told him that Islam is NOT a "peaceful religion". He is a Christian and I told him that Islam is straight from the pit of hell. It's a false religion and it will kill everyone if we don't stop it right now.

Will I get a response? I doubt it. But I got the message to him...the ball is in his court now. I hope that he gets it and understands as well...

Well .. I agree with you - we're all in this whether we want to be or not. What I see is that some people actually don't believe we're even at war .. they are so deceived.

I went yesterday by myself to see "United 93" .. I'm in a very liberal city. I was stunned to see that the theater was packed to the maxx.

The beginning is almost a ballet of sick Islamofascism .. with their twisted ritualistic hygiene routines. But this movie is a MUST SEE. It is intensely gripping, intense and so real. I was scared of the emotions I would feel, and honestly prayed at the beginning of the movie.

But the realities and heart-thumping pace keep you totally engaged.

One thing that struck me deeply was the looks on the faces of these beasts while they were being screened pre-boarding and the whole time there was any exchange from anyone. They stuck out like sore thumbs for these looks of foreboding and deadly seriousness they wore on their faces. Of course, we do not know what they really acted on that day, but the dead look on Atta in his photo and security video was enough to send chills down my spine. Hopefully, there is some screening for expressionless faces, foreboding in the eyes and antisocial behavior that stands out in screening lines or on the plane.

I believe that this was going to the funeral of supremely brave patriots, and this film honors them and their courage wonderfully. I believe they deserve no less than our tributes and abiding gratitude for their sacrifice by seeing this movie .. the first warriors of THIS War on Terror. It was also important that I go this weekend so that I could contribute to their Memorial, by going this weekend, but donations can be made on the site.

There are so many little things that leave indelible imprints on this event:

* The fact that their flight left 45 mins. late, which allowed for time for them to learn of the WTC attacks and the Pentagon, thereby the realization that their flight was not going to land, which galvanized the core group to action.

*Todd Beamer was supposed to leave the night before, but changed his flight to that morning to spend more time with his family. He was supposedly the last person to board .. he was running late .. yet we'll never forget his name, his resolve and faith, his conversation and prayers with the Verizon operator.

*The fact that there were enough young, strapping, strong men who would not go down without a fight, and who were far more muscular and athletic than the so called "muscle" beasts with box cutters.

*The fact that so many of the 40 were able to speak to their loved ones before they died or leave messages for them ... forever last words.

At the breathtaking end, there was utter silence in the packed theater .. and then a respectful quiet leavetaking, as if we were leaving a funeral. It was hard not to leave with tears running down my face, but I would see it again. It is superbly done. I absolutely believe that, in the end, the savages experienced terror themselves.

The only thing that disappointed me is that they didn't show a picture and name of all the brave passengers and crew on that plane. I think it should've been done in tribute.

I urge everyone to honor these brave men and women by seeing this film ...it is not overly gory or dramatized. God only knows what their bravery prevented and what more horrible repercussions than we experienced would be our reality today.

"No greater love hath a man than to give his life for his friends." NEVER FORGET!

READ HERE THE TRANSCRIPT FROM THE COCKPIT VOICE RECORDER AND THE TERROR FELT BY THESE TWISTED FANATICS.

There is no doubt in my mind that the beasts did know terror at the end ... may they be damned to that hell for eternity.

How did the others in the audience react at the film's conclusion?

The way some of the people on this board have misconstrued the film's message as a sermon of rationalization for their beliefs is really quite shocking.

Did Greengrass set out to honestly portray what those hijackers did to 40 innocent Americans?

Is he making a broad and far reaching statement that the destruction of Islam is the price to be paid for their deaths?

NO. I will say it again. NO. Please read my replies before 300.

Dear Starwise, thank you for the write-up about United 93, and for pinging me.

From what I had read elsewhere, I wasn't inclined to see it. It's good to hear about it from someone such as you.

I don't think people misconstrued it as much as it simply reinforced the beliefs that people already had. The events shown in the movie speak for itself and whatever message is taken from that is left to the viewer.
