Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!

"I am glad your son gets it. He understands."
My middle son understands things better than I do. If everyone of his generation were like him, I would have no fear for the future.

It is a war and the sides are chosen for you. Bears repeating.
Don't fight, and, you'll die anyway. Someday. Soon if you won't fight.
The line is drawn.

It opened in about 1700 theaters but it's #1 per tether $2,050. GO USA! Those are just estimates. I think this movie will show good numbers when the real numbers are released on Monday afternoon

I went to the 1:00 showing today. I too found it very intense, but I did notice that more time was shown with the Terrorists praying to "Ala Achbar" then was shown with the passengers praying to God. I did see one
quick scene with a women saying the Lords Prayer. Also I was a bit dissapointed that there wasn't much play between the passengers and those they were on the phone with. I especially think they should have included the intense call between (can't think of his name) and the 911 operator who talked with him at length. I remember this conversation from it being played on the news.
The things that went on at the control towers commercial/military was interesting.

Watch the movie.
You will not be entertained, and you will feel no catharsis.
You will be clearly reminded of the events of 91101 in a way you should always remember.
Confusion, shock, disbelief, horror, fear, rage ...and that was just what transpired before noon on that day as you went about your daily life.
The movie fills out a few details on what the people who were actively involved endured.
Not the politicians, and not the press.
This movie is the dramatization of the documentary that will never be allowed to be filmed.

Get a grip.
These people knew they would be dead along with their captives. The entire motive of the four was to kill and destroy in the name of Allah.
I find it a bit of a stretch that you think it called for giving equal time to the Christians.
Don't quit you day job. ;^)

My kids are too young (7 and 10)Seven, yes, but your 10 year old would probably be OK. I took my 9 year old today and he learned a lot. Language is the reason it got an R rating, but as a public school grade four student, he's heard it all before. I explained the context of the things that adults will sometimes say in stressfull situations and that I'm proud I have never heard him use the language that he has heard at school.

I think the concluding title card should've included both, reading:
Americas war on terror had begun
-
Dedicated to the memory of all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Hello,
I am watching it. I plan to see UN93 tomorrow, so either I am trying to make myself totally crazy, or I am trying to prepare. Watching this brings it all back. Waking up to "a plane accidentally flew into one of the World Trade Towers". Hey, there's another one! Wow, horrible things are happening everywhere, and may not stop. That's what pushed me over the edge on 9-11, that it would go on, without ending. I do remember sobbing/begging/perhaps screaming to my MIL on the phone to make it stop, maybe for 2 minutes, maybe for 10, I do not know.
I'm sorry to go on and on, I am generally a brave person, MOgirl

Boy, you really wonder.........about the USMC guards whose faces are spat on at embassies. About the Intel guys left behind when our peacekeepers leave. About the numerous people willing to give their lives without flinching while others piss and moan in their lattes.
That nobility could conceivably exist in such a configuration that strangers would band together in a muscular and measured determination to prevent a plane from crashing into either the Capitol or White House confounds those selfish minions in search of annihilation.
Patriotism appeals to the broad shouldered, and is at heart pure but not innocent.

When the European made the suggestion that they do as they're told so as to not be harmed...none of them knew about the WTC being crashed by suicide pilots..in passenger jets.
They also didn't know that the pilots were dead because of the curtain separating 1st and Coach.
Now that's a fact.
So, if you're on a plane where 3 crazy arabs...one with his finger on a detonator...amd you just saw them mercilessly stab an innocent passenger (the guy in denim)...of course you may suggest that you should do what they ask.
Gripping movie....can't stop thinking about it.

Well, that same Sunday, my parents were at their local parish church near St. Andrews, NB, and the priest officiated at a special memorial service for 9/11 victims.
Two different parishes, two different provinces, two different worldviews.

St. Andrews, NB,St. Andrews and Montreal might as well be in separate universes.
BTW, I went to high school and university in New Brunswick.

That was my purpose in mentioning the fact that my parents' experience was so different from my own. NB'ers seem to be a much saner lot than the Quebecois.
And I say this as someone who is of French descent on both sides of the family.
