Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
Ping for later. I'm going to see it this evening.
Sadly there was only about 30 people seeing the movie, if even that many.
I was looking at an old listing.
I just went up and saw it in another part of beautiful Fairfield Co..., Lancaster
whoa.....I will post a review later in the evening.
It was intense
Coming out, my wife and several other women were crying, and the mood was subdued.
I did notice that there were no previews, they went direct to the movie. I guess either a lot of film distributors decided they didn't want to be part of any controversy, or the "United 93" distributors felt it was inappropriate to have trailers of less serious films showing before
I saw it last night where I live in Marin County, CA. There was about 40 other people there, so the theatre was about half empty. It was very intense and I was on the edge of my seat. Everyone else was slient.
From the United 93 discussion website
Lots of buzz about the United 93 movie. Readers have been asking for my thoughts. Yes, I will go see it. Yes, I support Hollywood finally coming through with a movie that celebrates the heroism of the passengers and crew. Yes, it's time for this movie.
But there is a side of the marketing of United 93 that hasn't been exposed yet or confronted. Watch the latest episode of Vent to find out how jihadist rhetoric is being echoed by the official United 93 discussion site run by Universal Studios.
FYI: You can now get Vent for your iPod! Head over to Hot Air to download.

Update:
The Libertas blog has a very interesting post on how the ending of United 93 was altered.
Read it. (Hat tip: Joseph B.) **link fixed***
Spot on, dude! I cheered aloud and wasn't alone.
I think it was a decision to drive home that the Islamists are an alien culture. There was no BS sympathy for the hijackers point of view. They are just psychotic killers.
I don't expect this film to play well in Muslim countries
Just remind them, that it did happen to the WTC the first time under Clinton and he did nothing about it.
Eye witnesses confirm the movements and that it went inverted right before it crashed.
A Swede, huh? -- Was his name Hans Brix?
All excellent points. I think it reminds us, too, that even when we are promised protection by God, there are some circumstances where the devil is allowed to do his will. I can't explain this, but it was obvious from the number of Christians on that plane who were, indeed, victims as opposed to the many heroes (and I don't mean that in a negative way---some people, the very young, the elderly, in that situation, who couldn't be of much help in taking down the terrorists.
I am not saying this to be rude. But who in the hell cares about what those sick people think.
DU is scum. I saw what those people posted (in Joy) after Reagan passed away. If I ever ran into one of those SOBs in a dark alley. I would beat the living crap out of them.
they are ill.
Actually there is a new joke out now about the two terrorist talking in the airport and one starts speaking in Arabic, the other one shuts him up because he is scared someone will notice them. So to keep their cover they continue the conversation in Spanish.
I am glad your son gets it. He understands.
At one point before starting the hijacking, the lead hijacker (the one with the glasses) did speak a full sentence or two in English to one of the flight attendants. The three henchmen didn't speak any English at all. We know one of the other leaders, Mohammed Atta, spoke some English from his radio transmission that was accidently relayed to the ground. From what I've heard, that is consistant with how Al Qaeda runs their cells in the US. The leader is someone who is functional in western culture, speaks at least some English, etc. Then they import henchmen who probably speak no English but rely on the leader to get around and maintain their cover.
Because other people read what they say, and the "others" are trying to determine our national will.
BTW..I went and seen "United 93" again.
I stayed through the credits this time around.
