UNITED 93 FReeper Reviews
self | April 28, 2006 | RobFromGa

Posted on 04/28/2006 1:21:50 PM PDT by RobFromGa

Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.

It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.

The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.

In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.

There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.

Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.

I give in 9.5/10!

I think the passengers took action once they reached the threshold where they felt that death was inevitable if action wasn't taken.

I agree, they hesitated too long. - Partly due to a lack of weapons. -- A few knives might have made all the difference.

I give the passengers more credit for their action than you do-- having never been in anything remotely like this, I find it very hard to second guess.

I'm remarking mainly on their inability to defend themselves. -- I guess you could say I'm 'second guessing' the authorities that disarmed them, but I'm not impugning the passengers courage.

I'm just glad they got the chance to act before they slammed into the Capitol or WH. Do we know for sure that the terrorists in the front didn't have hostages for example?

For sure? - Of course not, but to my knowledge of events nothing was said on cell phones about live hostages.

I agree that the film transports you back to that day, and that it rekindles that spirit. That is why the left is noy happy about the movie, for the most part. They want us to forget, just like the Islamic Terrorists do.

"Dang, if I was POTUS, I'd give them all the Congressional Medal of Honor."

There is a civilian equivalent. Medal of Freedom.

Every bridge from Maine to Atlanta had people with flags standing on it. And south of the Pentagon, at dusk, there were hundreds of cars pulled over to the shoulder, out of their cars with lit candles

There were 6pm vigils every night for two weeks in my community. It was amazing and horrible at the same time. I guess you had to see it, I never could find the words to describe it. It sounds alot like what you are describing.

I am not sure if I could name the saddest thing I saw but two of the worst were all the "missing" posters and walls. I had never seen such concentrated sadness.

The other was the cars in the parking garage that did not move for a week or more. I remember shuddering as I walked past them every day. I remember thinking how horrible it must have been for those family members to come get those cars. How final it must have seemed.

Saw the movie, my fist was clenched so tight i got a cramp.

It was a good movie, the bad guys were BAD guys and cowardly at that. The only bit of humor (sardonic) was the dig on Europeans (see if you guys could spot it).

Saw United 93 this afternoon in a theatre just up the road from the Ronkonkoma Air Traffic Control as seen in the movie. Please see it and be an eyewitness to authentic heroes with real courage. The 'foreign' appeaser in the film nauseated me and my beloved wife. UNITED 93 is a solemn event that inspires like nothing else in film. All the feelings of how you felt on that fateful day will come rushing back with a renewed spirit to take it to the enemy. Let's all make it the #1 film in America.

I was of the impression that they were afraid of the "bomb" going off and only attacked when they had pretty much determine it was fake.

These were my thoughts yesterday, before I saw the movie.

10% of the gross goes to the families of the victims this weekend.

I agree ... I'm planning to see it tomorrow...I feel a responsibility to see it. These heroes deserve nothing less than for us to realize what they did as ordinary passengers on an extraordinary flight. God knows the ultimate repercussions of that flight, had the beasts been successful in their mission.

Roger Ebert gave it 2 thumbs up

"It is not too soon for "United 93," because it is not a film that knows any time has passed since 9/11. The entire story, every detail, is told in the present tense. We know what they know when they know it, and nothing else. Nothing about Al Qaeda, nothing about Osama bin Laden, nothing about Afghanistan or Iraq, only events as they unfold. This is a masterful and heartbreaking film, and it does honor to the memory of the victims." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Flight 93 Memorial

God bless the heroes and families of United 93 ~~~ "No greater love hath a man than to give his life for his friends."

It is hard for me to watch anything about 9/11 without getting upset. I will go see the movie, and most likely leave sobbing. It is a powerful message that needs to be repeated. The people on this flight look death in the eye and fought for their survival and the survival of people they never met, or ever will. We owe them our gratitude and our prayers for their families.

Your anger is mis-directed if it directed at President Bush. I suspect you are a troll though and won't be around too long.

We'll see. Who is spreading the rumors.

"Americans as a lot are not the brightest bulbs on the tree"

- The linchpin in liberal thought. The very cornerstone of their believe system. Average Americans are too stupid to know what is right for their children, their community, and their country. And so the solution for this problem is the all knowing, highly evolved, culturally aware liberal to tell us what is best.

If you wanted to lose that insulation you picked the right movie to strip it.

That movie I will not be going to. Like many others, all I have to do is close my eyes and there it is. And not enclosed in a black square.

I went in expecting to be angered. I had tears flowing at least three times during the movie. If you think you will be sobbing when you leave, I suggest bringing tissues.
