A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

My previous post is a segue into my response to your Daily Bread message, Your Honor.
"If you put your trust in the Savior, you will be lifted out of the waters of judgment and into the sunlight of Gods forgiveness. Henry G. Bosch From sinking sand He lifted me,
With tender hand He lifted me;
From shades of night to plains of light,
O praise His name, He lifted me! Gabriel
Rus, this moves me to share publicly now something very special triggered by this...
The hymn Love Lifted Me always was one of my favorites!
Hearing it first in Sunday School as a child, when I was 9 and went for 8 weeks to Camp Jocassee in the mountains of South Carolina, each cabin had Sunday Services.
I vividly remember sitting outside on the wooden bench by the front door, hoping the hymn would be # 4 - Love Lifted Me - and it often was.
It was perfect for little girls, singing in rounds allowing great harmony efforts..:))
Fast Forward to when I was 26 and at a low point in life...my parents (with whom I lived for a total of 4 1/2 years) urged me to accept a proposal from Hank, a protege of Daddy's - a young chemist with NASA at the Cape - only child of the retired head of the IRS in NY - he adored my two little boys (then 6 and almost 5) - offered to honeymoon where I desired, suggesting Rio de Janeiro - anywhere....
However, I knew I did not love him, and would not settle for financial security.
That prompted the Holy Spirit to then answer my fervent prayers that Spring to "Show me how to provide a good life for my children"...
Along in May came a not so likely prospect, who knew a fellow my sister had dated, making talking to him "okay.' He soon asked for a first date on a Friday night to take my boys and me to a drive-in movie!! Wow! Including my children?!! [Even took them to the rest room for me!]
Tuesday of the next week, he asked me to go out after he, a Water Safety Instructor, taught a Lifesaving Class. When we arrived for it, we learned it had been cancelled.
Where to go, then?? We'd seen the one movie in town (Melbourne, Florida was very small then!), and neither enjoyed drinking...so ended up visiting with his brother (with whom he worked) at his business for a while, and then going down Melbourne Beach to just sit and talk, to get to know one another.
Spreading a blanket, it had to be way up from the water underneath a high bank, the breeze about a very brisk, sand-whipping 35 mph. There were numerous pesky gnats.
We were just sitting there side by side, not touching nor thinking of doing so, chatting a short time, when suddenly the world changed!
The previously heavy crashing surf totally calmed and became glassy (mirroring Him!) - the wind stilled and the gnats were gone....
From that point neither of us uttered a word, but was acutely aware of The Presence of The Holy Spirit...He was conveying "Be still, and know that I am The Lord!"
Without going into some of the personal details, He gave us individual messages at the very same moment, divulging His desire for us, lifting our sins and then infusing us with divine peace and forgiveness.
Mine was a totally clear and emphatic "You will go with this man.."...
From that moment of the delivery, He faded from the scene, and the crashing surf resumed - as did the super strong wind and the gnats!!
In our humanity and sunk in awe, we looked at one another, knowing without even talking we each had experienced it, and stood up, wondering...and then found *proof* - a Sign only GOD could leave to confirm we were not merely delusional..:))
(Relating it much later to several men of God, they all agreed it truly must be the miracle we *knew* it to be.)
It truly was total fulfillment of that song He planted in my heart as a child - "Love Lifted Me"!!
To my parent's dismay, wanting "security" for me and a very interesting life with Hank, we took it from there, marrying a year and a half later, the country in a deep recession ...he reentered the Air Force to be able to afford to support the 3 of us.
In 3 weeks, That Night will be 46 years ago..:))
No matter what was ahead, we received His message and obeyed...no - not with totally smooth sailing at all times - to the contrary - He forced us to mature and grow through many *challenges* and setbacks..:)
I did notice my message was simply "You will go with this man" - -
and not "Your life will be a bed of roses!!

When you say cream do you actually mean cream and not milk.
Most people in England have milk in tea and coffee and as a special treat some people occasionally enjoy single cream in coffee.
Sugar was nearly always taken in both tea and coffee but of recent times a lot of people have cut sugar out. I take sugar in coffee but not in tea but have milk in both.

"When you say cream do you actually mean cream and not milk." Afraid that rolled off my fingers kinda like "salt and pepper'..:))
I indeed like milk in my hot tea - cream (or creamer) in coffee.

Goodness, what did you make to have the kitchen look like that or did you let Hubby cook. That is the way that my sis-in-laws kitchen looks after my brother the minister gets through cooking. If he weren't such a great cook...

What are the dishes that are pictured Snugs? I think the last one before the 'cuppa' is a pironella or something like that.

Iced tea with cream and sugar now that sounds interesting - not drinkable but interesting LOL.
The tomato pizza looking thing is a quiche just a pastry case with cheese and egg/milk filling baked in the oven.
I posted a link for a recipe of it earlier here it is again, as I said earlier this recipe uses gluten free flour but of course you can use ordinary flour.
