A group of black ministers announced a plan today to help stop violence in Minneapolis' North Side neighborhoods. Rev. Jerry McAfee of New Salem Baptist Church said he would make his a church where people could turn in guns without any questions. Earlier this week, a person he didn't want to identified turned in a loaded 9mm Beretta. McAfee said any guns the church receives will be immediately given to police.
McAfee, who was surrounded by other North Side ministers, activists and members of the Minnesota State Baptist Convention, said they are also working with gang members to get them to try to resolve differences without violence.

What?.... They're going to teach them how to read, write and speak real English, pull their pants up, show them which end of a baseball cap is forward, turn the rap music off, replace the 24 inch wheels on their SUV's with regular size wheels and tires, ban bling and teach them table manners among other things?
Wait till Jesse, Al, Cynthia and Maxine find out about this.
This is a fine idea. I'm going to stick up a 3x5 at teh local super's "community bulletin board" offering the same service, just drop em off at my house. I'll take care of everything. Old English side-by-sides preferred.
As long as guns are treated as the root of the problem, the problem will always remain.
As long as the "turf" mentality remains where rentors (if that) claim ownership of large tracts of land and use any violent means to keep others out and protect their illict business dealings, we will see these problems. Guns have jack to do with it.
Does the good Rev. McAfee have an FFL? If not, he will be in violation of federal firearms laws involving obtaining and transfer of firearms without the proper paper work.
SHH!
Don't bring these 'laws' into play here! We are making people feel good! Self Esteem over Safety!
Nice way to start a collection -- or a black market business...
No, man! You gots it all wrong! What need to be happnin is that the folks in the hood need to turn in the a$$holes, not the guns! You know how they troe the guns in the furnace and melts em down? You troe the a$$holes in the furnace and melts THEM down! Yeah! Dats it! Dat do the job.
If I were a pastor, I'd start one of these programs myself. Sounds like a cheap way to pick up some decent hardware.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
