April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.
The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, categorically denies being the source of the leak, one of McCarthys friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clintons National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beers role as the Clinton NSCs top intelligence expert.

Somebody had to turn on McCarthy or it was a set-up. The polygraph tests were administered deliberately not random.
I think the foreign prison story caused such an uproar in Europe and the White House never denied it that I don't think it was a set-up. However....

Ernest, there are 3 possibilities here.
- The IG took the polygraph test in order to be a good example for those in his shop.
- The IG took the polygraph test because he was Mary's boss, and it's the correct procedural thing to do in the Company in such a situation.
- The IG took the polygraph test because Goss thinks he is involved and the whole IG shop is dirty.
Now we'll see how this one unwinds.

If I was a betting man, I would place my be that Berger is talking and none of the rats around him know it. Also, the press WILL NOT PICK THIS STORY UP IN FORCE UNTIL THERE ARE ARRESTS OR INDICTMENTS. Once there are, look out. The floodgates will open. This will be the story of the decade!! In the future when the name McCarthy is mentioned, people will not think of Senator McCarthy but Mary McCarthy. In the intelligence world, she is as important as or more important than a senator.

One blogger mentioned that the Company often uses a "plastic cheese", a story that is either false, or true but tilted in a certain direction that makes it unique. It permits one to track an individual story to the source.
In that sense I think there were a lot of "plastic cheeses" spread throughout the Company, and in a way it could be viewed as a setup.

Am I wrong, did she NOT confess? I read she did after failing a polygraph test.
But, when have facts mattered to the libs? It's all about spin.

Randy Beers took over a high positioned job but after looking through some files, he decided to quit.Really! That is very interesting. I didn't see that though I did read most of the thread.

Yeah, well, Clinton denied having "sex with that woman . . . Miss Lewinsky".
The problem she has is that her friend John F'n Kerry pretty much confirmed it by coming to her defense yesterday.

Plastic Cheese - a new term to play with.
Interesting.
I guess we'll all be grabbing the velveeta instead of the popcorn for this story! I would love for it to be a fake story. The Pulitzer prize had to be given back by the Washington Post one other time because the story ended up being false.

I'm sure going to root for your theory. This is something that has needed to take place for some years. People that work in these positions of trust are going to have to be shown the hard way they can't do whatever they "feel" is right. We are supposed to be a nation of laws and some people with a political bent have abused it terribly. Maybe if they lock up enough of them the rest will decide it's in their best interest to start being American's again.
