April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.
The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, categorically denies being the source of the leak, one of McCarthys friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clintons National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beers role as the Clinton NSCs top intelligence expert.

Wouldn't you think her phones are being tapped (with FISA or some judicial approval, of course)?
Freeper Jane Austen, researcher extraordinaire, found it. And it is chilling because it represent long range planning.
This administration will not let this go, knowing that the dems will try and impeach Bush,...
WE the conservatives are going to have to keep people's feet to the fire - especially, the media.
This aught, at least, get the amount of coverage the Hallowell and Duke cases are getting!( The top of the hour, the middle and the end - of each hour, every day, months on end.)
No, I don't think he was aware of the plan. I can't even envision that, although he's so cozy with the Clinton's that I imagine a lot of freepers will assume the worst.
I don't think anything will come of it either, MEG33. If the former National Security Director can steal document from the National Archives, take them home and destroy them and get a slap on the wrist, then no one in government (who is a Democrat) will ever pay for anything in my lifetime.
Yep, it's kinda strange and maybe very telling about just how big this is.
j
It also demonstrates Clintons belief that Gore might not win..
I certainly hope you're right. But things don't seem to break that way for Republicans.
Actually, I think Larry Johnson is an idiot. All these traitors never thought McCarthy or anyone else would be caught and fired like this. They htought they were smarter than those in the administration and they igured their allies in the press would cover for them.
They thought Bush, et al did not have the balls, and they were wrong. No one at the CIA this high up has ever benn nabbed before. This is HUGE!
Jim Angle reported that the polygraph is not admissible in court
Though ... because she did confess to leaking .. the case was referred to the Justice Department
I suspect that powerful Demorats have offered to run interference on her pending prosecution in exchange for telling them all that she knows (if she hasn't already).
I predict Kennedy will refer to her as true patriot that is the victim of a white house witch hunt.
Hillery will claim she is being victimzed because she is a woman.
Pelosi will claim it is the result of administration incompetence.
Kerry will wisfully state that things would have been som much different in Vietnam if more CIA officers had leaked (not that she did mind you...).
Cindy Sheehan will hold a candlelight vigil to try and get back into the spotlight.
Have I missed anything?
Faster, faster!
Between forums like FR, and talk radio, a lot of people are hearing this story. And the blogs are swarming it. Even some Canadian blogs I follow.
GRRRRR.. Now there is an enemy of the State if there ever was one. Talk about biting the hand hand that feeds you, most of his work comes from the US Govt,ie, the Bush Admin!
Even if Gore did win, Clinton knew he had to pave the way for Hillary and defeat the Republicans. Not just a Republican presidency. But Republicans in general.
And he's done a pretty good job. The Republican Congresscritters have been worse than spineless.
It would appear that is the case..
only leaked to the news outlets
indicates that there have been leaks to who; Congresscritters not cleared to receive the info, former co-workers, and then there is all that paperwork the military has found in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And there was a pretty nasty character who said once upon a time something to the effect that We will destroy you without ever firing a shot.
I don't think it is enough to take a look at political affiliations over the past few years. We need to look at universities attended, overseas travels while in school, political activities while in college. That type stuff. These people would not have been wall flowers in those days. Something is bound to turn up.
I am having a hard time leaving my tinfoil hat on the shelf.
In other words, there is no such thing as protected, classified information?
Has his rescission been rescinded?
Fine.
Let's see Federal Indictments for treason. If this isn't treason, then it's high time we found out what treason really is, by having a trial and running it up the chain to SCOTUS. At the very least it will identify where the holes are, and some legislation can be started to plug the gaps.
In any case, a no-kidding trial for Treason ought to send the right message to the remaining libs who think they know better than the President...
Has anyone ever considered maybe Berger cut a deal after SOCKGATE and maybe he is talking to the feds?
He has known the players, and these leaks have been going on for a long time (4 years - long before sockgate). Maybe when a new leak comes out, Berger is questioned if he knows anything and is given a polygraph. If he lies at anytime and fails a poly, he knows his deal would be voided and off to jail.
This is very possible. I have seen this tactic mysef first hand and it is commonly used.
