April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.

The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, “categorically denies being the source of the leak,” one of McCarthy’s friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beer’s role as the Clinton NSC’s top intelligence expert.

Hi, arasina. I believe it's not only a shadow government, but was planned long before Clinton left the presidency in order to make a sort of placesaver for Hillary in a few years.

Check out what Jane Austen found below and tell me that's a coincidence:

Clinton Veto Statement (notice the date)
For Immediate Release November 4, 2000
STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

Today, I am disapproving H.R. 4392, the "Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001," because of one badly flawed provision that would have made a felony of unauthorized disclosures of classified information. Although well intentioned, that provision is overbroad and may unnecessarily chill legitimate activities that are at the heart of a democracy.

~~~~~SNIP~~~~~~~
Similarly, the legislation may unduly restrain the ability of former Government officials to teach, write, or engage in any activity aimed at building public understanding of complex issues. Incurring such risks is unnecessary and inappropriate in a society built on freedom of expression and the consent of the governed and is particularly inadvisable in a context in which the range of classified materials is so extensive. In such circumstances, this criminal provision would, in my view, create an undue chilling effect.
All those Clinton leftovers and very slow housecleaning at the CIA made this possible, IMO.
And Democrat obstruction in allowing Bush's nominees for second- and third-tier postions to be confirmed.
There was a was a lot of nominee obstructing going on just prior to 9/11/2001 from Democrats making it hard for Bush to put his team in place, especially after losting a good portion of the transition time prior to taking off due to Gore's election contest and Clinton freezing transition funds until it was resolved.
"her with a crime could "force a trial that several former intelligence officials said could wind up airing sensitive information.""
SPIN. Look what Fitzgerald did with Libby. 1st, he did not establish a crime. Then he files charges on perjury based on entrapment. Does he care what classified docs are subpoenaed?
WRT Mary O. Mc...Nothing classified need to discussed. Only that she revealed classified info. That is a crime. The nature of the info is not important.
I wish I had your optimism. The administration has such a reputation of turning the other cheek about lies told about them that I'm not hopeful at all.
Well that's interesting. I can only hope the AG is developing the case against her and she'll be in jail soon. But the way things work in this country lately, I'm not holding my breath.
I wouldnt, either. By then end of the week the headlines will be something like, "Courageous Whistleblower claims witch hunt to distact from Plame-Libby-Cheney-Bush-Gas Prices-Iraq......."
Either Rand Beers is subbing for David Gergen, or the Clinton/Kerry Mafia has a 'batting order' for marching their liars in front of the TV cameras and this time it's his turn...
What they can do is take her clearance and probably deny her pension.
BFD! She will make millions on the circuit...or end up like Ron Brown or Foster.
Given research reports on that sort of thing, she has probably even lied when responding to confidential surveys.
It's in the first paragraph. The whole IG shop in the CIA is dirty. McCarthy was only working for her boss.
This administration knows what is at stake NOW. They were too trusting by keeping Clinton's people still in sensitive positions. McCarthy is looking at a maximum of 10 YEARS FOR EACH LEAK SHE DID. Now add on CONSPIRACY CHARGES, and she is looking at a very long time in prison. She will not risk a trial, since she has already confessed. She will roll, if she has not already, and become a witness against others to lesser her sentence.
