Why no special prosecutor for the latest CIA leak case?
If Mary O. McCarthy should ever be so desperate as to need a character witness, or to require one so badly that she must stoop to my level, I declare in advance that I shall step forward pro bono. I am quite willing to accept that whatever she did or did not do or say about the surreptitious incarceration of al-Qaida suspects overseas (and let's not prejudge this), she did it from the most exalted motives.
I accept this because, however much of her hard-earned money she threw away on making a donation to the John Kerry presidential campaign, she is obviously more than a mere partisan.

But one cannot argue, in the case of a man who says that his CIA wife did not send him to Niger, that the proof that his wife did send him to Niger must remain a state secret. If one concerned official can brief the press off the record, then so can another.
Thank God for Hitchens. He is among the last of the principled Left who put Country before Party and do what has to be done for the long term.
In an era of knee jerk lIberals, he is the last of a dying breed.

DOJ hasn't got their ducks in a row yet. She'll be arrested unless she's become a singing bird....you think she's made a deal? I think that's very possible...others in the CIA...to follow...????

It was obvious from the first that the press, in taking Wilson and Plame at their own estimation, was fashioning a rod for its own back. I await the squeals that will follow when this rod is applied, which it will be again and again. hehehe.. that's for sure.

the Intelligence Identities Protection Act? It was obvious from the first that the press, in taking Wilson and Plame at their own estimation, was fashioning a rod for its own back. I await the squeals that will follow when this rod is applied, which it will be again and again. Hmmm... this sounds good to me.

You made my day with this post. Christopher Hitchens writes truth and I'm thrilled he's written about Mary McCarthy illegally disclosing classified information to reporter(s). And most especially, for making us realize Joe Wilson's probable connection to McCarthy and to Dana Goodfellow Priest.
Now, where are our Republican Senators? Where's John McCain who never misses a chance to speak out on everything?

Yes, I agree a very good article.
However, Hitchen's forgot about the amici brief from the news agencies to the court. They were against the investigation before they were fore the investigation.
It is so difficult to be consistent in these things...

Hitchens is the very definition of an independent thinker. Wish I was that clever.

I don't think she's singing and I don't think Sandy Burglar did either (I still HOPE though)...anyway, these cabalists and coup-plotters are TRUE LEFTISTS that DESPISE Bush mostly because he's a CHRISTIAN.

Thinking on this, when will she and others be arrested....could be a possible maneuver to wait till we're much closer to election time. Durbin and Rockefeller...are also on the hot seat.

Yeah, they wouldn't want to be hit by any Democrat IED's, like being called a bad name.

One thing that has not been mentioned on this subject is that while the CIA polygraph may have fingered McCarthy she could have responded until hell freezes over that the machine was wrong and that she did no wrong. Instead, she was not told her employment had to be terminated. Instead she was marched out of the building. Thus, they must have had a hell of a lot of information on her and the polygraph was superfluous to her personnel action. There is always the case that when confronted by the poly, or the facts, or both, that she cracked. She may have admitted her felonies. What is unexplained is the direct relationship between McCarthy and Priest. The CIA must have known this. Finally, there is something missing here, and I believe it is found in Justice Dept. Her name was probably referred to Justice and it is possible that her phone(s) were tapped, and evidence gathered by the FBI confirmed her guilt. Justice informs the CIA, the CIA gives her a poly, she fails, and is frog-marched out of the building and out of McLean. This should be the beginning of this scandal, not the end.

He is among the last of the principled Left who put Country before Party and do what has to be done for the long term. This is true. I've watched Hitchens for years. Long before 911. He's as socialist as they come, but a straight shooting man, and a damned brilliant debater.
