Mary Mc Carthy and Plastic Morality
By now , everyone has heard the story : Mary Mc Carthy , a long-term veteran at the CIA , has been fired for leaking highly classified material to Dana Priestly, a star reporter for the Washington Post.
Ms Mc Carthy is not only unemployed ; she is in criminal jeopardy as well and it is by no means a given that Dana Priestly and her employers are off the hook for prosecution under the espionage statutes.
At the moment, a Republican administration is in power , and many loyal Democrats are proclaiming (rather vigorously) Mc Carthy should be honored as a whistleblower , because some of the material she is said to have leaked made life more difficult for the Administration.
Some of her supporters suggest she had a moral duty to violate the stringent terms of her employment and the espionage laws : a duty that transcends mere statutes and regulations. Some have even suggested that anyone who believes otherwise is on the road to becoming a good little Nazi.
I have a suspicion many of those who presently extol the ladys virtues might be cursing her - if Democrats occupied the White House ; but I could be wrong.
Its hard to predict reactions in an age of plastic morality.
In many parts of our country , people who feel a high sense of moral obligation towards animals have bombed facilities that conduct animal research , vandalized the cars and homes of research employees, and conducted acts of criminal harassment.
On both coasts, other people who feel halting development is a highly moral act ,have burned down SUV dealerships, spiked trees in an effort to injure lumberjacks, burned down homes under construction, and have even fire-bombed a spring water bottling plant.
In the year 2001, a microbiologist (and friends) exercised their highly developed morality by sending Anthrax through the mail to punish America for its sins. (They had the good sense to suggest al-Qaeda might have done it and loyal supporters willing to lay false trails for the FBI to follow ; but a day of reckoning will come )
Politicians from all major parties have reached out eagerly to accept unclean contributions forwarded by those who want to promote questionable commercial enterprises ,and welcomed the lobbyists who broker these deals with open arms. They justify betrayal of the public trust by claiming a high moral duty to secure and remain in elective office.
I could go on and on until my fingers are too weary to type, and your eyes are too weary to continue reading ; yet , after all was said and done, any one of us might nod approvingly then go out to do something unspeakable in the name of a higher moral purpose.
Such is the nature of Plastic Morality.
Years back, I signed an Oath of Secrecy and I don't recall that it included words having to do whether I agreed with the secret or not. It simply said that if I violated the terms of the agreement, my donkey was going to be up Democrat creek.
"This morning was the worst. I got into the show just in time to hear him say that and I shut it off.
I don't know why FOX keeps him on. He is about the stupidest person in the world who has face time on the media.
I really wish Bill Crystal had hit him right in the face when Juan accused Bill of "leaking" items theu the years. I was outraged at Williams, and I don't think I am alone."
I agree and every time I watch FoxNews late in the evening with Eric Burns, I think that if Cal Thomas just unloaded a right on Neal Gabler, Cal would put the dildo's lights out for quite a spell.
Then she has a moral duty to run for elective office, not commit espionage against the Republic. What a bunch of ivy league, syncophant losers these socialist liberal wing nuts are!
And also, reporter Dana Priestly's husband is a real dyed in the wool , genuine communist. This little cadre of traitors needs a quick fix: in the nearest heartbreak hotel.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime!
"Why the hell does Fox news keep him around?"
To make Brit Hume look good?
Lets connect some dots in the Mary McCarthy CIA leak tale, shall we?
Maybe so that we can watch Brit Hume turn red? One day, Brit will really unload, and I do hope I'm watching!
But in his defense, Juan is typical of Liberals. They don't understand economics (Juan kept talking about supply of oil, and refused to acknowledge that demand made any difference), and they don't understand national security (he can't tell the difference between the President declassifying past secrets and a gov't flunky exposing current secrets).
Do you know a Liberal any smarter? I don't. I just know ones who shout louder (like carvile)
That is a scary thought - because these lunatics are just crazy enough!
I don't think Juan Williams has any influence. He's an NPR commentator. Some people believe NPR, and others never will.
But what Lib would do any better? They're all alike.
The danger of this will be at its greatest when the looney left realize that they will lose the 2008 election.
To keep the peace and to avoid civil war, we may have to let them think they have a chance. Otherwise we may have another civil war on our hands, centered around our cities.
Thanks. That does ease my fears somewhat. However, to my knowledge the Justice Department has yet to act on any information it has gathered. I hate to by cynical, but if you know how the FBI works we can expect something in 2009.
Your photograph is very instructive. In all my time in and through D.C. the only person I've ever noted who used the Dr. before his name at hearings and so forth was Henry Kissinger. Now, either this woman has an ego to match the good Doctor's or else she suffers the pangs of intellectual inferiority. Or both?
While I agree with most of what you wrote, the above quote is a problem. There have been numerous allegations, but you have inflated them here to a statement of fact. Unless you are willing and able to produce substantial credible evidence, you should avoid such "factual" statements.
Except for this tidbit, I'm 100% with your sentiments, sir.
There are plenty of trained glib-tongued leftist moles out there who are just waiting to get a spot on national TV.
At best, Juan is a holdover from a previous, more simple-minded anti-American world-view. Let him be where he is, making a jackass out of himself and convicing no one.
Leni
I wonder what would happen if these dirt bags suddenly said they did not agree with the laws against murder?
I'll give you a "no comment" on that one.
I could give a few examples-but let's settle for ONE.
How about the man-acting on "higher moral purpose"- who murdered at least one (I don't recall the exact numbers)abortion clinc doctor ?
