PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush will spend much of his day with Marines and sailors, attending church and joining them for lunch at the base in Twentynine Palms, CA.
Last night in Indian Wells, near Palm Springs, GWB helped pull in nearly $2 million for the RNC at the Toscana Country Club. Tomorrow, after a speech on immigration in Orange County, the President heads for Las Vegas and a fundraiser for Nevada Congressman Jon Porter. From the podium, the President mentioned dignitaries in attendance such as Dug Sundheim, California Republican Party chairman; Bruce McPherson, Secretary of State; Sen. Chuck Poochigan, R-Fresno, a candidate running unopposed in the June Republican Primary for Attorney General; Steve Poizner, running unopposed for the Republican nomination for Insurance Commissioner and U.S. Reps. Connie Mack, R-FL, and Mary Bono, R-Palm Springs, who happen to be dating but were seated at different tables. In his remarks, the President highlighted the War on Terror and how students need to be prepared for the future.
After his lunch and visit with the Twentynine Palms base Marines and sailors, GWB is expected to spend the rest of the weekend at an undisclosed location in Rancho Mirage.

Folks who have been following this presidency closely from the beginning know that President Bush has been trying to get Congress to pass a comprehensive energy bill ever since 2001. Here is a link to the President's Letter to the American People about his Advanced Energy Initiative, and a summary of the initiative. For those interested, the linked WhiteHouse.gov page also contains a link to download a .PDF copy of the complete Advanced Energy Initiative document. Other than cutting back on our driving and other uses of gasoline, we can't do much about the soaring costs of fuel in the short term. However, we can help the President ensure a more energy-secure future for us and our children and grandchildren. I urge all Dosers (active and lurking) to familarize themselves with the President's proposals, and to pressure your congressional representatives and senators to pass either the entire initiative or those portions of the proposals with which you agree.

Sorry to hear that. I suffered with strep throat frequently until I had my tonsils out in high school. It is pretty painful, but that's why God made ice cream. : )

'How would you like to see the world's two greatest living dogs?" asked President Bush, as he led me over to a side window in the Oval Office. On the lawn outside, his secret service detail was engaged in exercising the Bush family's two Scottish terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley.
"So, what do you think of them?"
Drawing on my limited knowledge of the subject, I said that I understood terriers had a reputation for being good with children. "Well, these dogs are good with no one," he remarked with a chuckle.
He then asked what I thought of the Oval Office. Attempting to enter the President's playful mood, I said that it looked "kind of round". "No, it's oval," he immediately corrected me.
Wearing a plain grey suit with well-polished black cowboy boots, the President appeared trim and fit for a man who would soon be celebrating his 60th birthday. More than a year into his second term, Bush is already starting to think about his legacy. Work has begun on the planning of his presidential library (in Dallas, Texas) - but he is under no illusion that his presidency will ultimately be judged on the success or failure of the Iraq mission.

"Every week, we have a video conference to catch up on things," he explained. Compared with the fresh-faced young man who swept into Downing Street in 1997, the burdens of high office, together with the relentless attacks on his judgment and integrity, had undoubtedly taken their toll.

I've never had my tonsils taken out. But I've never had strep throat before either.
We speak english without even thinking about it. Imagine how difficult it is for an adult to learn our language.

I keep thinking that if both parties just plain decided to vote to close the border, then NOBODY could use it as an election ploy against the other. Maybe it would take an act of the Holy Spirit descending on them in tongues of flame. (Or maybe just smacking them upside the head!)
But then neither party could take credit for it so they'll never do it. No one does anything without thinking about what it means for the party and who gets the credit (or blame) for it.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom being ill. These are not of AF1 at Palm Springs, but maybe she'll enjoy them anyway. You might also check Yahoo News Photos tomorrow in case they have any of the President's departure from Palm Springs.

Seriously, if they'd all just put politics, party, personal agendas, and all that aside, and just DO WHAT'S BEST FOR THE COUNTRY . . . the country would be a safer, better place.
