The senior intelligence analyst who was fired Thursday by the CIA is a supporter of Democratic congressional candidate Joseph Sestak, which U.S. Rep. Curt Weldons campaign charged is further evidence that the former Navy admiral cannot be trusted on national security issues.
Mary McCarthy was dismissed for leaking classified information about the CIAs secret overseas prisons to The Washington Post, several media organizations reported Saturday.
Sestak, who served as director for defense policy on Bill Clintons National Security Council, received two donations from McCarthy last month totaling $350. McCarthy also contributed $2,000 to Sen. John Kerrys 2004 presidential campaign.
Weldons campaign reiterated that Sestak accepted contributions from former Clinton National Security Adviser Samuel "Sandy" Berger and former CIA Director John Deutch -- both of whom have admitted to mishandling classified information.
"Where will this end?" asked Weldon campaign spokesman Michael Puppio. "Sestak and the Clinton people are attempting to infect Delaware County with these scandals."
Berger, who last month hosted a Washington fund-raiser for Sestak and contributed $1,000 to his campaign, pleaded guilty last year to a misdemeanor charge of removing and destroying classified material from the National Archives.
Deutch was pardoned by Clinton in 2001 for storing classified intelligence reports on personal computers linked to the Internet. He gave $500 to Sestaks campaign.
"The guy is in the campaign 2½ months and hes got contributors who are national criminals and the scandal is following him," Puppio said of Sestak. "Now," he added, "a fired CIA employee who may face criminal charges as a result of this also gave" to the Democrats campaign.
Sestak campaign spokeswoman Allison Price said Weldons "silly" attacks and "conspiracy theories" are signs that he is desperate to hold on to his seat.
"Joe is an extremely strong candidate. He was a three-star admiral. Of course Weldon is going to throw anything at the wall and see what sticks," she said.
Price said Sestak stands by his former colleagues in the Clinton administration and is proud of the work they accomplished in the 1990s. "These are people that know Joe and support Joe and know that he is capable," she said.
McCarthy, who was reportedly serving in the CIAs inspector generals office at the time of her firing, was appointed by Berger in 1998 as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs.
Weldon officials also suspect McCarthy leaked information to the media last year in an attempt to debunk the congressmans book, "Countdown to Terror," which is highly critical of the CIA. Weldon plans to call for a FBI investigation "to see what national security information she leaked and who she leaked it to," Puppio said.
Sestak entered the 7th District race in February and is widely regarded as the strongest Democratic challenger Weldon has ever faced.
In some previous elections, the 10-term Republican hasnt acknowledged his Democratic opponent. This year, however, his campaign has launched a full assault on Sestak, labeling him as a candidate who was "handpicked" by former Clinton officials to oust Weldon.
Sestak has previously told the Daily Times that no individual or organization asked him to run for Congress and that the decision was solely his own.
This is creepy. I searched for "Sestak mccarthy" on Google News. NOTHING (about these two) showed up. Why are the Clintonistas trying to silence Weldon? I'm also mad Sandy Burgler got off easy. What is he hiding?
Seems like a lot of these Clinton NSC people have a problem with following security regulations: Sandy Berger, John Deutsch, Mary McCarthy. Anyone who's ever had a security clearance knows that their butt would be in a sling if they did what these folks have done.
Thanks for the ping!
I also posted this article in a thread on LittleGreenFootballs. I post there under the name of "Baldy." How come this isn't in other places? I searched Technorati, and got nothing...
Go get 'im Curt. Kick his ash back to wherever he came from.
I thought it was bad knowing that the Dems had the media, the entertainment industry, and academia as bigtime cheerleaders for their rad/lib agenda. Apparently now we have large numbers of our intel as Donkey Party stooges. It's time for Bush to fire every operative with Dem ties. Boot them all out. And prosecute McCarthy to the full extent of the law.
Has anyone uncovered a photo of Mary McCarthy ?
I'm wondering who else she hangs out with.
Applause for William Bender and the Delaware County Daily Times!
Paper cut alert!
In some bad places too!!
Going to cook dinner now.
The draft Zinni site has a profile of its left wing rats with military service in elections this year, listed as Security Democrats Running For Senate.

Maybe this coup can be labled the Zinni coup.
With our limited computer speed and memorr, the Freepers this past weekend have done a mini Able Danger on Mary McTraitor, and we have dug up a ton of data which implicates her and other rats in what might be labeled the Zinni Coup Attempt.
If Tom Clancy wasn't in bed with Zinni and the rest of the Zinni Coupers, he could write his best book ever, "The CIA/Zinni Coup to Oust Bush!"
So the Demagogues have decided to try to salvage their abysmal standing on national security issues, and now they have a list of "Security Democrats." YAWN.......
What needs to be hammered home to the MSM and the public (not the MSM will allow the message to be heard) is how appalling it is that the Demagogues ARE in fact so weak on national security that they have to make a special push to recruit ex-military candidates, promote this list as "Security Democrats" etc. What these clowns are not saying, but should be called out on, is that nearly 1/2 of the Demagogues in the House are official members of the "Progressive Caucus" aka as "democratic socialists" who have consistently voted and lobbied to weakend our security for decades.... and the Demagogues in the Senate are, if anything, worse (with the rare exception of a Lieberman or former Senator Zell Miller).
Every time the Demagogues try to talk about their "Security Democrats" it needs to be thrown back in their face: why on earthy is one of the two major political parties reduced to trying to convince the public that it is not fatally weak on national security issues? Why are the Demagogues so desperate to salvage their image and reality? Because their party is dominated by the loony-left who weakened us for 30+ years, cannot decide whether the capture of Saddam was a good thing, and are more concerned that Osama Bin Laden receive an ACLU legal team than with actually winning the War on Terror.
Just more proof about what some of us have been saying for years. There is no place for left wing rats in a volunteer military.
Only God knows how much damage they did will on active duty. Then, like Kerry when they get out of the military, they become embolden Traitors and are rewarded with political offices by being a rat traitor.
Deputy CNO Sestak Is Reassigned
New CNO Reportedly Makes Move Because of Poor Command Climate
By Christopher P. Cavas
Times staff writer
Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (DCNO) Vice Adm. Joseph Sestak was administratively reassigned July 25 by new Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen, according to Rear Adm. T. McCreary, chief of naval information.
Rear Adm. Mark Edwards, currently serving as director of the Surface Warfare Division, will serve as the acting DCNO until such time as a relief can be identified, nominated and confirmed, McCreary said.
A source within the Navy Department said there were no allegations of misconduct on the part of Sestak. Rather, he said, the move is being made because of poor command climate.
Command climate and how people exercise their leadership responsibilities are key priorities for Admiral Mullen, the source said, and this position is one of the key jobs that will help determine the success of the Navy, its people, and its future force structure.
Sestaks removal is one of the first moves made by Mullen, who was sworn into office on Friday.
Widely viewed as an intellectual within the Navy Department, Sestak has been a key figure in fashioning the Navys role in the quadrennial defense reviews conducted by the Pentagon, acting as director for the 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review and in an advisory role for the current review, to be completed in September.
Sestak moved into the DCNO role last October. Before that, according to his official biography, he served as director of the Navys Assessment Division/Capability Analysis Group, and was the first director of the CNOs Navy Operations Group, known as Deep Blue, charged with coming up with new and inventive ideas for naval warfare.
A Navy official said that while the CNO truly appreciates and supports the analytic rigor Vice Adm. Sestak brought to the his job, CNO feels a change is needed during this critical time.

The dems have a number of military people running for Congress this year
They also have another big brass navy guy running against Sen Allen for the Senate seat
The Dems think these candiates are off limits because they are military
Kind of like how the media thinks they are off limits on what they report because of the 1st Amendment
I've said it before and I'll say it again
Our side best start paying attention to what the Dems are doing on the local and state level
Your words are like plunging a silver spike into a vampire's heart. Joey and Zell surely where/are amongst the few remaining that are strong on national defense. And surely there are a lot of marginal rinos.
LOL! But how sad indeed.
