May 1 ‘Great American Boycott of 2006’ for immigrant rights gathers momentum By Sharon Black Published Apr 22, 2006 12:12 AM

The national call for a May 1 “Great American Boycott of 2006: No Shopping, No School, No Work” to demand full rights for immigrant workers and their families is gathering momentum. This call, initiated by the March 25th Coalition Against HR4437—a grassroots coalition that grew out of the Los Angeles action that brought hundreds of thousands of immigrant workers into the streets last month—has likened the May action to the Montgomery, Ala., bus boycott of 1955. Organizers want to exercise both political and economic power on that day.

The call has struck a chord in many immigrant communities. For many immigrant workers May 1 is celebrated in their home countries as a day to commemorate the working class struggle and is marked with marches and rallies worldwide.

In Los Angeles, taxi drivers have vowed to shut down LAX airport and trogueros (truck drivers) will be closing the harbor. Demonstrations are being planned in both major and smaller cities throughout the country, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago and New York. Wherever possible, students and workers are planning both individual and group action. Many small businesses, particularly in the Mexican community, will be closing.

On the weekend of April 22, organizers will meet in Chicago to form a national network to continue this momentum. Following the meeting, there will be a press conference in Washington, D.C., on April 24, the date that Congress reconvenes.

In New York City, the Million Worker March Movement and the Troops Out Now Coalition, which were planning a May 1 rally and march from Union Square, voted to support the immigrant rights movement and the “Great American Boycott” action. The coalitions had held a march and rally last year to revive May Day and were actively making plans to march again this year. Chris Silvera, secretary treasurer of Teamsters Local 808 and president of the National Teamsters Black Caucus, proclaimed, “We support and embrace this movement.” His union local is hosting the May 1 Great American Boycott 2006 Coalition, which is composed of the many immigrant communities of New York City including Latin@, Filipin@, South Asian, African, and Caribbean communities.

Nationally organizers are making plans to politically and legally support any worker or student who is retaliated against for their participation in activities.

African Americans: Not only are they stealing your jobs they are stealing your history too. Then the Democrats will sell you down the river to court the breeder voters.

Where o where is President Eisenhower at. Despite a mediocre Presidency he did kick the illegals out of the country.

It appears they equate the war in Iraq as a war on them and their causes. There are many dangerous groups and the illegal invaders are hooked up with them.

In one quote one of them said they don't want a worker program cause it would not be in THEIR best interest. LOL

Wobblies have been backing it behind the scene, (unknown everwhere but here on FR), from the start.

Seems that the Bolsheviks are hijacking the legalization movement.

MEChA, LULAC and other groups are trying to back down on the boycott and march for May 1. Problem is that many people want to march so they will be there and A.N.S.W.E.R. and other leftist groups will be the demonstration leaders and they won't be passing out American flags for the marchers to wave.

This is standard Communist technique, hijack a movement when the leadership gets cold feet. Then use that movement as cannon fodder.

Unless the legalization relative moderates get the word out not to show up or take charge the marches might get ugly.

I propose all AMERICANS boycott all things Mexican on May 1 (ie. restaurants, businesses, buying Mexican beer, products from the grocery store, etc.) That includes, no treatment at the emergency rooms, no "entitlement" payouts from the gov't (1st of the month is when they usually go out), no honoring their food stamps at the grocery store unless they show proof of American citizenship, all arrests by police that day would require proof of citizenship or an instant deportation, i could go on and on and on but i won't, to spare you all my disgust. However, while we're at it, let's boycott cinco de mayo on May 5th.

ps. PAY YOUR TAXES! 12,000,000 illegal aliens are depending on you! Great tag line on FR that I lifted)

The racial special interest (borderline supremacist) groups like MALDEF, La Raza, LULAC and Mecha find themselves in an interesting situation these days. A.N.S.W.E.R. is outplaying them at their own race baiting game. Any backing away that might be done, is being done because they don't want to see their bread and butter 'segment' become loyalists of another larger more effective entity.

That's the danger you risk, when you play these games. Now a very large organization is playing the race card and the smaller organizations are threatened. Their donations will likely suffer. Their events will be less supported. Their dictates will be ignored.

What this will force, is still more radicalization of all these groups as they seek to gain or even maintain their slice of the pie.

While this situation morphs, the Rs and the Ds will be pandering their little asses off to be the champion of the degenerating masses.

The meeting, called at the request of U.S. Latino leaders who sit on a Mexican government advisory council, is aimed to give more information "about the current debate about immigration in the U.S. Congress." in the U.S.

In the Meeting the Mexican government will tell the leaders not to have the May 1 festivities. Too late.

Send these to your representatives. That should make them squirm.......to be openly supporting an organization that is calling for the takeover of the US.

Let them go on record.

yea it is too late, the disruption to our infrastructure by a form of passive terrorism will have the opposite effect than they want .

Their motive for restraint is not because they are interested in the US well being, or because they want to remain out of our governmental affairs but it is because they realize the protest may backfire and have the opposite effect they really want which is the destabilization of our borders and nation's sovereignty.

Just the fact that there is a dialog going on between foreign insurgents in this country whom are organizing the disruption of our infrastructure and a foreign government, (e.g. Mexico) which is a socialist corrupt government is alarming in itself, regardless of what they are telling the insurgents to do or not do at this time.

"No (free) emergency room visits? I didn't see that one on their boycott list."

LOL - true. If they go to the hospital, the nurses and doctors should tell them they are boycotting work to help their cause.

If you don't ask me, I think there isn't a dime's worth of difference between the Democratic Party's platform and those of the Communist fringe parties.
