Protesters say it's not U.S.'s job to provide for illegal immigrants
Houston Chronicle ^ | 4/23/6 | Todd Ackerman

About 100 people rallied against illegal immigration Saturday, waving U.S. flags and holding signs such as "Remember the Alamo" and "Texas Isn't A Mexican Colony." The protest outside the Mexican Consulate south of downtown came in response to massive demonstrations in Houston and nationally earlier this month in support of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"It is a sad day in this nation when people here illegally can storm the streets of our cities and demand U.S. taxpayers continue to provide them welfare, social service programs, free health care and the education of their children," proclaimed Curtis Collier, president of U.S. Border Watch. "If elected officials cannot fulfill their oath of office to defend this country and the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic, I demand they resign."

The rally, staged to fall between San Jacinto Day Friday and the U.S. Senate's expected resumption on Monday of deliberations on immigration reform, brought no counter-protest. Some passing motorists honked their horns in seeming approval.

Immigration legislation in the Senate and the House of Representative has inflamed passions around the nation. The House bill calls for a crackdown on illegal immigration that focuses on tightening border security, while the current proposal in the Senate combines more enforcement with temporary worker visas and an "earned" path to legalization for illegal immigrants.

With Toby Keith and George Strait blaring from the sound system, speakers at the rally blamed Mexico for fueling the illegal immigration. One speaker referred to its "industry aiding people across our border."

"You know you have a problem when white-haired women show up for rallies," said Louise Whiteford, eliciting cheers and laughter. "We need to boycott the businesses that support illegal immigration."

The speakers called for Bush to issue an executive order to close the Texas-Mexico border and complained that more than 50 percent of U.S. immigrants are from Mexico, even though it is not as poor as many other underdeveloped countries and represents only 7 percent of the world's population.

Thanks for the ping but you're not gonna like my response: if Hayworth doesn't like the privacy laws that have to be enforced by these agencies, then Hayworth can do his job and change them.

"I second that. This is an invasion, and our elected officials are required to protect us from all threats foreign and domestic (one of government's few legitimate roles). It's time they ante up."

No. The Federal government has decided to abdicate one of the only roles that the Constitution specifically gave it. It now does just about everything that the founders did not intend for it to do, and little of what they intended it to do.

How does the author of this article know that all 100,000 that protested in LA or Dallas were illegals?

(a) They aren't going to resign;
(b) Some on the right might get voted out, but his/her spot will just be filled by a lefty and the situation will get worse;
(c) What is plan C?

They certainly were supporters of Mexico, that's a fact. And they support all the free bennies that us taxpayers give them, thanks to our RINO politicians.

Heaven forbid the illegal aliens should have to go without the bennies and come through our ports of entry on the borders as the legal immigrants do.

I worked for social services in CA. I know what benefits illegals get: nothing.

The Senate apparently thinks that "comprehensive immigration reform" is an opportunity to give illegal foreign nationals even more entitlements.

Hidden Bombs (Extremely Important Article on Immigration)

The second nasty surprise? Just before the committee approved the bill on the evening of March 27, Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) offered the "DREAM Act" as an amendment. It passed on a voice vote.

The DREAM Act is a nightmare. It repeals a 1996 law that prohibits state universities from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens. The principle, of course, is that no illegal alien should be entitled to receive a taxpayer-subsidized benefit that out-of-state U.S. citizens can't get. But the committee's bill allows illegals to be treated better than those U.S. citizens on tuition.

Interesting. I work for a major health corporation who is reqired to give a certain amt. of health care dollars to "indigent" pts. I overheard a doc asking if they could be "illegals" and the administrator answered that there would be no questions asked. So, I ask you--what citizen did NOT get "free" health care because ILLEGALS are taking their share?

Interestingly enough, even Hillary kind of "gets it" where Mexico's nearly
omnipotent oligarchs are concerned:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/story/411104p-347791c.html

"[Mrs. Clinton] said she favors a "carrot-and-stick" approach with Mexico to
provide that government and its "oligarchs" the incentives to give Mexicans
more and better jobs in their own country."

Frankly, the more pressure we keep on Mexico, immigration-wise, the more
reformers inside of Mexico can be emboldened and empowered to scale back
monopolists' abuses down there which keep our own country flooded with
economic refugees. Here's an interesting thread on new legal reform progress
that finally
emerged in Mexico I think as a result of immigration reform's failure:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1611677/posts

We can make a difference for our sake, and their's as well, by cracking down
and demanding more activism by our own United States Trade Representative
against protectionist Mexican oligarchs in, for example, the monopolistic
petroleum, telecommunications, electricity and television media sectors.
Isn't prodding our neighbor to finally clean up its own backyard before
lambasting us for ours the neighborly thing to do?

None.

1. Is the revenue source of funds you are required to "give" from federal, state, or local taxes?

2. If you can't ask if anyone is "illegal" then how do you know they are?

Yes, it is an invasion....therefore, it's time to put our troops on the border and not the NG....US ARMY, US MARINES...it's time to protect America first...

We can't ask, but the doc sure knew. He also got several thousand dollars up front for his "services". I happened to be passing by when this info came to light.
