BAGHDAD, Iraq - After months of political deadlock, Iraq's parliament convened Saturday and filled top leadership posts, starting the process of putting together a new government aimed at pulling the country out of insurgency and sectarian strife.
President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, was elected to a second term, and the post of parliament speaker went to Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a Sunni Arab. Al-Mashhadani's two deputies were to be Khalid al-Attiyah, a Shiite, and Aref Tayfour, a Kurd.

Looks like Iraq has a government now. DemocRATS are saddenned.
Didn't the Kurds endorse him yesterday?
this should be THE big story of the week-end, an important, vital milestone that finally signals success for the post-war government.
No surprise the MSM hasn't heralded it....too positive for Bush.
Don't know about the Kurds, but I know the largest Sunni bloc did. Sounds like they're making some progress.

This should be big news. But the MSM will downplay it, or NOT play it, because it is another of many indicators that we are succeeding in Iraq.
These folks did a hell of a lot better than we did. Washington didn't take office until 1789.
And forming a government doesn't take away problems, it merely addresses them as changes occur.
If Bush Bleeds it Leads!

I thought the AP WAS the MSM. Something change?
President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, was elected to a second term,
I heard on John Batchelor radio the other day that this was predicted, as there was no other alternative offered by those who opposed him, so He was re-elected.
Comeon joesbucks, you know how it works. A Bush positive story, (even from the AP), gets one time cover, the rest of the MSM gives it scant attention, lets it die on the vine intentionally, with no sustained follow-up.
That's the opposite of how they over-kill cover an event, or poll, that hurts this Administration.
Thats why i'm here at FR. ;o)

About time they started moving foward .I was starting to think we liberated a bunch of clowns over there .
Cool! The washrag wringing is almost over. Soon, we will have normal country-to-country relations with the Iraqi people. I bet some of our guys got married there like they always do.
Beg to differ. Many major news sources. Need more?
The old saw of blame the media is old. Plus with the scores of reports that they are ineffective anymore, why do we continue to worry about what they report?
Blaming the news is our crutch that simply isn't valid. It's a pavlovian reaction.
