There was a crackdown Wednesday and dozens of illegal immigrants were arrested.
Many of those same immigrants were released just hours later
It was the last thing they, and their families, expected.
"They are not criminals. All they're here for is to work for their family," said Mariz Gomez.
And that's what they were doing making wooden pallets at two different locations when federal agents swooped in and took nearly 70 suspected undocumented workers to this federal detention center in north Houston.
"Just for them to come in here and to just throw them back to where they go. That's not right for them," said Gomez.
Families 11 News spoke with feared the men mostly from Central American countries would be deported.
But that was hardly the case.
Just five hours later Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents began releasing the undocumented workers.
"I was surprised by the quick release," said a man who asked that his face not be shown. Several others made the same request.
It is not clear why these immigrants were released so quickly but workers say it may be because the 950-bed facility was severely overcrowded.
The workers say they were told the facilities were full. Sources inside the facility say the same thing and that agents have been ordered to release immigrants as soon as possible.
Some of the workers say there were other problems Wednesday.
They said computers went down and agents had to scribble information, in one case, failing to write in a court date altogether.
The men we spoke with promised to show up for their immigration hearings, still finding it hard to believe they were released so soon.
Congress and the courts are equally to blame. I don't lay everything at Bush's feet, however, he's not even SAYING The right things.

Bush made one mistake, he said he wants a guest worker program even though it's supported by over 60% if the borders got sealed first. He should have stuck with 3 words,"seal the borders", period.
One thing has nothing to do with the other!
They are criminals!
And if they were caught committing the same crime in Mexico, they would be charged with a felony and eligible for a sentencwe of up to 2 years.
At this point, I will just have to watch and see what he does.

It's out of his hands along with gas prices but that has never prevented anyone from jumping on the MSM Bash Bush Bandwagon. This is the same MSM some here on FR claim they don't trust but are willing to side with if it's an issue that supports their claim.
Bashing is not the same as disagreeing, and it's not bashing to question what on earth he's doing. I am not a Bush basher by a long shot. However, I also think that the border issue is so important that I'm no longer willing to just believe that my govt is doing all they can, and things will just be ok. This has the very real possibility of destroying for my children what generations of my ancestors worked to hand us on a silver platter.

He's in charge of the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch EXECUTES the law. He's where the buck stops. If he wants the laws upheld, he can get it done.
What's the law that has teeth that can get them deported without adjudication? Is it for the accused to show they're here illegally or is it the judicial system? Does not having documents prove they're here illegally? Round em up all you want and they still get their day to be heard. While they're waiting for their day, show me what law allows for their detention without bond? "Build a Fence", on who's money and approved by who, President or Congress? Sure the Executive can do more at enforcement but it's the judiciary that determines if they get deported. Immigration Court is a minimum 4 months in the rears. Being an Illegal Immigrant is no worse than getting a speeding ticket in the eyes of the law because they're both just misdemeanors. Congress can make it a felony and that would help a lot by putting teeth into the law.

I wasn't saying you were but to hear some of the ugly things about our President here on FR has really got me ticked off. Some here have stepped beyond civil discussions to total mean spirited ignorance of the job and capabilities of the President.

Sorry! It was just a general reply. Not really meant for you. I just am of the oppinion that if we toughen our stance, Mexico will refuse to take back the illegals, and then we'll be stuck with them. China refuses to take anyone back already.

Pachysandra is a ground-cover plant! Bogus is bogus. I was calling a married friend one day. His answering machine came on, so I started goofin'. Using a sing-song Pakistani type of accent, I told him that I was Dr. Bogus Pachysandra from the Cleveland Free Sex Clinic, and that, on no account, should he touch that thing, or let anyone else touch that thing. Feds Warn Companies Using Illegal Workers
WASHINGTON (AP) - The government plans to crack down ever harder on employers who harbor and hire illegal immigrants, pursuing companies that ignore the law so they can exploit cheap labor.
``We are going to move beyond the current level of activity to a higher level in each month and year to come,'' Michael Chertoff said Thursday. He pledged to ``come down as hard as possible'' on violators.
Federal agents on Wednesday arrested seven current and former managers of IFCO Systems, a manufacturer of crates and pallets, on criminal charges, and more than 1,100 people were arrested on administrative immigration charges at more than 40 IFCO sites in the U.S.
``Our nation's communities cannot be a wild frontier where illegal aliens and unscrupulous employees subvert our nation's laws,'' said Julie Myers, assistant secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
