Russia to be neutral in possible Iran-US armed conflict

MOSCOW, April 19 (Itar-Tass) - Russia will maintain neutrality in a possible armed conflict between Iran and the United States, Russian army chief of staff Yuri Baluyevsky stated on Wednesday, as he was answering Itar-Tass questions.

"Unequivocally, and I'm saying it as chief of the General Staff, Russia will not be offering the use of its armed forces on this or that side," Gen Baluyevsky said.

He called for resolving the Iranian nuclear problems through negotiations.

"A diplomatic solution of the Iranian nuclear problem is the only right path; one should walk on it, the nuclear problem should be resolved under strict control by the International Atomic Energy Agency," he underlined.

I think the Russians will do the classic two step and play both sides of the fence. Moscow doesn't want a full blown regional war that could spiral out of control, but they do want to profit from the mullahs as long as they can, and at the same time keep America on the defensive. The Russians will block sanctions from being imposed by the UN (to buy time to continue selling Tehran weapons and intelligence) all the while telling us behind closed doors they are with us in wanting a halt to the Iranian nuclear program but before using any kind of force the world should "exhaust" all diplomatic avenues. Garbage! Moscow will wait until the last minute, then they'll join America and most of Europe in cracking down hard on Tehran. If anything the Iranian president should be most wary of Moscow and it's intentions. Remember how the Russians burned their other "good friend" Venezuela by selling them rebuilt AK-47's and not the new ones they promised? Moscow and Tehran, two capitals filled with liars, crooks, murderers, thieves and terrorists.

Yea, but some evidence exists that Russia help Iraq move its WMD. I don't trust them AT ALL.

I'm sure the Russians "helped" them move Saddam's WMD, and I wouldn't be surprised if the French also "helped." Saddam probably paid the Russians and French to transfer the WMD. Moscow and Paris (and Berlin) only thought about Saddam's oil and money, that's why they didn't want us to liberate the Iraqi people. They knew how dangerous he was, but they all made billions off him and didn't want it to stop. Now the Russians are making billions off the Iranians and they don't want that to stop, until they know they have to in order to avert war.

Hu Jinto told Bush today that he would be neutral in any Iranian conflict. But Hu keeps selling Iran weapons, just like Putin does.

Hmm, lemme think about this.

Russia wants to be a very neutral player in this potential conflict. They say they have no dog in the fight.

Russia gets energy supplies from Iran and has been markedly unhelpful to the U.S. including being uncooperative before the Useless Nations.

Russia says let's just let the IAEA resolve things. Well, what is the IAEA's track record on this sort of thing? Hmm, Iraq? Hmm, Iran?

I say let's bomb Iraq, Russia and the Useless Nations into smithereens since that is what the MacArthur Foundation would favor. Russia likes history, right?

"In June of that year, Stalin appeared to endorse the plans of North Korean Communist leader Kim Il Sung to attack South Korea, assuming—according to documents that have since come to light—that the United States and other major powers would not get involved. "

"In late 1949 the position of the US Army was that Korea was of "little strategic value". A National Security policy paper of December 1949, which sought to apply the doctrine of "containment" of Soviet expansion to the Far East, established our defensive perimeter as running from the Aleutians to Japan, and then to the Ryukyu Islands and to the Philippines. In retrospect, many feel the public announcement of the defense perimeter outside of Korea implied a lack of will to defend Korea and was an invitation to the North Korean invasion."

It's green lights across the board, but it will be the US going in alone. The rest of the world will breathe a sigh of relief, but also watch the US somewhat anxiously afterwards.

Yep... just like those super duper jammer devices Russia sold to Saddam.

The ones that we ended up using to pinpoint targets of interest.

Junk or crazy covert op in that case... I'm betting on the former.
