Did anyone just watch Cavuto clean Oreilly's clock?
Fox News

Posted on 04/17/2006 5:53:30 PM PDT by Borges

Bill Oreilly was complaining about the outgoing CEO of Exxon Mobil making too much money and Cavuto pointed out that Oil Company CEOs provide a much bigger service to society then talk show hosts who also make millions...Bill was speechless.

not at all.

a guest worker program is not the market at work. its government injecting itself into the labor market to increase supply, which lowers wages, and lowers them to the point where the costs of sustaining those workers brought into the society - is passed to all of us.

you can be in favor of such a program if you want - but let's at least acknowledge what it is - socialism for businesses.

People who can't get others to do what they want are always appalled by what those who can do it are able to earn big bucks .... even in failure.

I appreciate your point.

There is skill here I do not doubt it. Just as there is skill in Saudi Arabia and the greater OPEC cartel fixing prices. Them getting us to pay large sums of money for our oil requires "skill."

Exxon's CEO's skill was compensated for, I'd assume, by stock options and salary. But when he leaves the company he ceases to be of any benefit to the company.

Paying these large sums of money for departing execs looks bad.

I don't think the "simple" life has much to do with it.

No, it doesn't. I was just sharing my personal pov. I couldn't run Exxon, that's for sure.

I think they should fire Blow'Rielly and hire Dobbs.

Fox should hire Dobbs, and fire Cavuto

Why, because there isn't enough Bush bashing on television already? Dobbs is nothing more than a transparent demagogue with only two bullets in his gun: Illegal immigration and outsourcing; and he is hopelessly ignorant about the latter. He rarely talks about business even though that's what his show is supposed to be about. Fox won't touch him.

Dobbs is poison, Cavuto is the antidote. I'm pleased you don't run Fox network.

"The shareholders determine the pay of the CEO. No surprise, there. Haven't heard them complaining either."

Right, I wish I had Exxon stock. It'd help this "everyman type" offset his huge losses at the pump.

Smart move.

Lee Raymond did more for the profitability of Exxon that anyone unfamiliar can imagine. Is it unreasonable for a brilliant businessman/CEO to be rewarded generously for having made his company, year after year, one of the most successful and profitable in history? Lee Raymond always took a relatively meager salary [compared to other CEO's]. Why is it so outrageous to reward this man generously for success ... when hardly anyone even noticed that Jill Barrad's employment contract awarded her a $50 million golden parachute for virtually destroying the once successful Mattel toy company? And her ultimate vanity was making a crashingly ugly, and unsuccessful, dark haired Barbie doll in her [Barrad's] own image. I am growing very tired of hearing all the talk ... especially from O'Reilly and Drudge ... about Lee Raymond's severance package ... and especially about his appearance. The poor man was cursed with a hare lip ... and became one of the most successful businessmen of all time ... despite what would have been a psychologically crippling disfigurement for most people ... because of what is in his brain ... not because of his handsome visage. Anyone who has watched Mr. Raymond over a long period of time knows what a nice man he is, as well.

Time for folks to give this topic a rest. Their remarks reek of envy.

All of that said, it is way past time for Exxon-Mobile to have a significant dividend increase ... instead of giving so much money away to "worthwhile" causes. There is no more worthy cause to any company than its shareholders.

Yes it looks bad but for comparison's sake let's look at the hollywood poofters. George Clooney's acension from the casting couch lavishes him with $20 million for 2 months work making a film.

That's nothing compared to the modern logistical miracle drilling, transporting, refining and delivering the 360 million gallons of gas the country uses each day.

One thing for sure this guy hasn't failed.

Put a monkey in a V.P. position and at least 75% of the people that work for him will toe the line, they know where their paychecks come from.

You give yourself too much credit.

When Clooney contracts for a job up front and agrees to a pay rate, fine. He is earning what the movie maker thinks he's worth. I don't mind someone earning a high rate for work. They can justify their pay rate by comparison.

Can a CEO getting a $400 million dollar bonus to leave do that? If so I'll go back to my corner and stay there. :)

Cavuto and O'Rielly appear to have a genuine dislike for each other. If they came to blows, I'll place my money on Bill. He has a good four inches in height and 40 pounds on Cavuto.

Be just O'Rielly's style to sucker punch a guy in a wheelchair.

Buy high, sell low?

No one gets rich by churning his own account ... only your broker gets richer like that! LOL ... but, anyone who has watched XON over the past 30-40 years will realize that the only time one buys high and sells lower ... is after a stock split ...

LOL

There are still people who buy good stocks to own them indefinitely ... and usually wind up richer than they started out. Of course, one has to watch the obvious ... and not hold on to a company like GM and AT&T [once fine stocks] until the companies are in the toilet.
