Question for conservatives who vote for Republican candidates every few years because the Republicans are the "lesser of two evils." P>
How is your voting strategy working out?
Since "conservative" Republicans have taken over the House of Representatives 11 years ago, the expansion of government has continued at every level. Nothing has been done to stop the holocaust of abortion. Gay marriage under the guise of "civil unions" is becoming a norm in our society. Our government continues in its Wilsonian tradition of globe-trotting and nation-building with the precious blood of American soldiers fertilizing the subjected nations, making them "safe for democracy."
Nothing has been done to deter the invasion of over 10 million illegal immigrants across our southern border. Taxation as a percentage of income is at record levels. Federal and state government debts are at record levels. The middle class of the American citizenry have the boot of the government planted squarely on their necks and continue to shoulder much of the monetary burden that keeps our corrupt governments breathing.
Conservative voters, I ask you again...How is your voting strategy working out? Have the "lesser" of evils advanced your agenda? (I really don't believe that this "evil" is lesser at all...but is merely a different flavor of evil. Much like choosing between strawberry or chocolate ice cream...the underlying substance is the same with the only difference being the flavor.)
I'm not asking if they have promised to advance your agenda (because I know their rhetoric).
I'm asking, "What has the Republican Party done for you and your cause?"

Until there is a paradigm shift in the thinking of conservatives, our nation will continue slouching toward certain destruction...Until there is a revolution in the minds and thought processes of dyed-in-the-wool conservatives who regularly vote Republican, there will be no legitimate change in our nation's course...Until the conservatives arise from their mental dormancy and slumber, our nation will continue to creep toward certain judgment.

I didn't say "don't vote Republican", I just said don't sit out on the elections. Now is the proper time for you to vote your conscience.

It's a shame that so many people will happily sit in the passenger seat as the car they are in is going over a cliff, just as long as it's their guy (party) doing the driving.

How can you honestly say that the UN is of use to us when you consider just how much time and money we piss down the drain when dealing with them? I think it's pretty safe to say that we are/have been getting hosed by the UN on all levels.
I've always looked at it from a pragmatic viewpoint - voting against the lesser of two evils...But this thread got me thinking...
If you believe in the representative republic system, and that the most votes wins, then from a philosophical standpoint, you should be voting for the best candidate, whatever their party. Or, vote for the best party. Ideally, better and more representative candidates will emerge over time if peoples' votes reflected their own philosophies, rather than simply votes 'against' a particular party (casting a vote for a mediocre candidate instead of who you really think is the best candidate).
The 'lesser of two evils' method of voting muddies the whole process and actually reinforces the problem. It may work in the short term, but is definitely destructive in the long term.
Yet, it could be said that it is inevitable for the political system to degrade over time and that voting for the 'lesser of two evils' actually slows that process, while voting for the 'best' candidates usually means you're at odds with pick of the 'masses'.
I'll vote Republican in '08 if Rumsfield, Pence, or other select few run (Guiliani, Romney). I'll never vote Democrat, but will consider Libertarian or Constitutional Party.

So far on this thread the talk has been only of the splitting of the Republican vote. Look at the Democrats. They are so far out of line with their base there is going to be vote splitting for them also.
Pretty good. Got a big tax cut, Saddam is in jail, the EPA is backing off everywhere, Kyoto is dead, got a couple of nifty new Supreme Court justices, and that's just for starters.
I'm not going to throw away my vote for some loser party who doesn't even think the US Air Force is constitutional.
And supporting some weirdo group is only going to lend support to the democrats who are doing what exactly on immigration? NOTHING! At least the House Bill had some muscle, maybe your efforts would be better served by trying to get more Conservative Republicans elected into the Senate.

When you vote against one party instead of what you believe, you are making a protest. The argument of voting for the lesser of two evils could be said to be a vote in protest against greater evil.
The Framers did not intend for us to vote this way. I vote for the candidate that holds the same or close to the same values as myself. And I could care less what letter they have by their name.
This voter does. I think that a lot of voters have, but have listened to the arguments made by those who will still vote Republican this year, despite being slapped in the face over and over.
He and the party supported a liberal over a conservative.
The "Conservative" voters couldn't overcome in that case. What makes you think some fruit cake CP will be able to? Republicans can't get their legislation passed now because of filibusters, what is 1 or 2 CP people going to do other than weaken their numbers even more?
The Constitution Party has never had a chance to. But, the Republicans, on the other hand, have had complete control of not just congress, but the entire government. They have accomplished nothing, instead they've been on defense against a minor party, accomplishing nothing, still having to compromise on immigration, etc.
When the respendicans become conserative again I will support them, but as of now I can not support the liberals in the respendican party.
