Harper called a 'Bush Baby'
Tories' election victory a serious disappointment to comic Williams
NEW YORK -- Canada elected "a Bush Baby" when Stephen Harper became prime minister of Canada, according to U.S. comic Robin Williams.
Lamenting the choice, because he is no fan of U.S. President George W. Bush, the politically active Williams told the Sun in an exclusive interview that: "You basically elected a Bush Baby -- and you did it openly!"
But it is too soon to lampoon Harper, Williams said. "Oh, not yet."
The Oscar-winning actor is a social satirist as well as a slapstick comedian. He is savvy on Canadian politics and does a wicked impression of Jean Chretien.
When the federal election was held in January, Williams was in Toronto shooting an American political satire, Barry Levinson's Man of The Year. Williams paid attention and even watched one of the televised debates.
"No. 1, there was no personality that I could latch on to," he said of the difficulty of sending up Harper.
On a serious level, Williams was concerned about the apathy of many voters. "I talked to a lot of Canadians who said: 'I don't know who to vote for -- and I don't care!' But you have to say: 'In Afghanistan and Iraq, if you vote, you're putting your life in danger. It meant something to them.' "
GRITS 'WEREN'T BLAMELESS'
Williams, of course, knows why many traditional Liberal supporters did not vote -- or turned to the Conservatives, as they did in Quebec.
"The past administration had foibles. They weren't blameless. They had screwed up huge on that and, when you do that, you're going to get smacked. The good news is that you have what we don't have. You have that vote of confidence (to bring down a minority government in a crisis)."
Williams said that if the U.S. had the same system, Bush would be threatened: "Right now, if we had that, he would be gone, you would hope."
The comic, who is seriously critical of Bush's foreign policy since 9/11, is also angry about the White House's failure to act decisively in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and is convinced that the White House is grinding the U.S. down with a staggering debt load. He worries that Canada will follow the same road with Harper.
Canada, Williams said, is too civilized and precious to be messed up.
"You are like in a parallel universe. It's almost like an alternate universe. It's America but not. It's a weird thing to be in Canada. It's like we're two children separated at birth. We left home early. You stayed with Mom.
Williams said unlike the U.S., which fought a War of Independence against Britain, Canada signed the BNA Act and was "still part of the Commonwealth, still part of the family, and it was all good and well, and then eventually you got your nationhood. And we were like: 'F--- you!' "

But they wouldn't have been allowed to vote in those countries had Williams' candidates won.
Williams is saying here that he admires Canada for being a socialist "nanny state". He really should just move there. At least, I wish he would get out of my country.
BTW, the shirt reads, "I love New York" in Arabic!
He's just another "Hollyweird liberal" in denial about the political reality.
Canada's Liberal Party loves those types of people as they representation the base of our Liberal Party. They claim to be "fiscally conservative, socially progressive" which is one of the least common positions on the political ledger.
Sickening.

Just an entertainer who has an arsenal of useful gimmicks. Unfortunately they are mostly juvenile and get tiresome quickly.
More liberal hypocrisy, the Hollywood liberals film in Toronto to avoid having to pay a good living union wage to Americans, who can then provide for their families.

Robin Williams has jumped the Gravlocks(fish)..
Some years ago, Williams paid a large cash settlement to a young woman who caught a case of a clap from poor Robin. Bet she didn't think it was funny.
Not to mention they are right at home in ultra-liberal Toronto...
Back in his 'Mork' days, I used to enjoy Williams. Then one night I saw him on the Carson show. During the appearance Carson got out about two or three sentences, while Williams proceded to do a sit down 'stand up' routine. Carson used to let some of this guests do this. Dangerfield used to take advantage of it, and he was quite funny when he did.
During the routine Williams flitted from one topic to another, hitting on about 5% of his offerings. The audience was silent, Carson was watching unable to rescue Williams even if he'd have wanted to.
What this revealed to me, was that Williams was no different that a high school class clown that did little more than make it so others couldn't learn from the teacher, or in this instance enjoy an evening's entertainment.
When comedians are on, and they are hitting, it's a real high. When they're on and not hitting, it can lead to severe depression. Here you are putting out your best stuff, and there's no adrenalin payback. The audience is silent and you feel it and linger on it long after you have crashed and burned.
Then came Williams political comments. After hearing how abysmally left he was, I just couldn't stomach the guy any longer. It's one thing to excuse a bad performance, it's another entirely to excuse away abysmal citizenship.
Look, I recognize people's right to free speach. I recognize their right to rant and my right to be repulsed by it. If a person wants to trash our leaders and our policy fine, I am also able to evaluate those rantings and determine what my response will be.
Williams can self-destruct if he wants. I don't have to respect it or think of him any better than I would a traitor, if his thoughts are that offensive to me. And at times, they come damned close.
I have no use for the guy. Keep him off my television screen and somehow I'll survive.
