LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born. Matthew 26:24
The words of the four canonical Gospels, the words that call Judas Iscariot a betrayer of Jesus Christ and a tool of the devil, have been read this Easter weekend in millions of churches around the world.
To hear the hype about another gospel, though, Judas got a bum rap.
In the Gospel of Judas, released April 5 to great fanfare, Judas actually was on a mission from Christ when he arranged to turn Jesus over to the religious authorities.

HAPPY EASTER everybody!
Not too many people take gnosticism seriously.
Agreed. But the dinosaur liberal Democrat newsrooms are having so much fun rubbing this Judas "gospel" in the noses of Christians, it's imporatnt to refute it loudly and clearly as often as possible.
Not too many people take dinosaur liberal Democrat newsrooms seriously either ;)
My mom knows the man who translated the judas scrolls. He is her friends neighbor in CA.
He has been doing it for years and JUST finished.
There are quite a few of these questionable old documents. Some of them do have some light to shed I believe, but the hard-core gnostic ones are pretty far out there. I judge these old texts by that gut feeling of "does this ring true". The gnostic stuff generally does not.
As for Judas. My view is that he was working for the Sanhedrin as an insider all along and that his reports to the Sanhedrin became the foundation for the gospels (the Q document). I believe that these documents are not found in ancient records because they were taken by Paul in his efforts to root out Christians. I believe that it is through Paul how they (the Q document) came into the hands of early Christian writers.
Like God used Paul...God used Judas's reports of Jesus's actions and sayings. God can turn things around and use them for his purposes, he cannot be defied and his purposes cannot be defeated.
That is very interesting. And the documents are an interesting part of history. Just not part of the canon is all.
These documents were written 200 years after Judas died.

Liberal news media love stuff like this. It gives them a secure feeling in their life of unbelief.
Who knows????They could still find the gnostic gospel that says the 10 commandments are fake, you can cheat on your spouse Jesus believed in sex with kids and oh yes, abortion is really a holy sacrament in God's eyes.......
They found that, they'd be ready for some ol' time religion. Of course, they already worship at the alter of do whatever the heck you want.
"...as written in Coptic, an Egyptian dialect that only a handful of scholars can translate. "
Egyptians had many gods. They, no doubt, wrote it to please their gods.
Judging by sales of The Da Vinci Code, you're wrong about that.
I have learned by experience that trying to bring new ideas to light on this site more often than not brings with it a massive barrage of insults and ramblings by mental midgets. There is another scripture that states verbatum...Mark 3:28, 29 "I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemes of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will NEVER be forgiven; he is guilty of an ETERNAL SIN." So, Judas was just a man, a friend of the Son of Man, and a tool of both the Devil, and of God? No, he was just a man who made a bad choice. He was absolutely grief stricken at what he had done and could no longer live with himself and with remorse committed suicide. No one really knows what the ultimate eternal fate of Judas Iscariot really was, but is suicide really a one way ticket to Hell? No way, not TRUE!!!! Judas probably dangled, stuggling at the end of an increasing tightening noose with no strength to free himself and died with regret at not only what he did to Jesus, but also that which he had just done to himself. My belief has always been that Judas does not reside forever in torment. MORAL? Do not committ suicide in an instantaneous manner, as it does not give one time to realize that a greivous mistake has been made, or worse...no time to reverse the situation, call out for help, or to ask the forgivness of God. Nothing is as it seems to be, so open your friggin' minds and just try for once in your sheepish lives to figure out what is really going on...A wise man discounts nothing and is always open to new ideas and ideologies. So...here I am...FLAME AWAY!
Beat me to it. I was going to comment it can hardly be called the Gospel of Judas since it was not written by Judas, but by someone else 200-300 years later. Wasn't that about the time Muhammed was on the scene doing his thing?
Happy Easter! And thanks for the post. We need to be reminded that Gnosticism is just as deadly today as it has been for hundreds of years.
Why is it even a question that any feels it necessary to answer? My faith has never been questioned by Stan Lee's writings either.
