Former Wisconsin governor and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said that he'll announce his political intentions at the state Republican Convention in Appleton in May.

Thompson, in a satellite interview from Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, continues to fuel speculation that he might run for governor again or the U.S. Senate, WISC-TV reported.

Yes, I was surprised at some of the umpty-umps who supported Green over Walker. I don't think I can ever forgive them.

Senator Tommy would be great. If anyone can defeat the dairy queen, he could.

But we need a solidly conservative governor.

Wisconsin and Florida are two states in which we would have at least a 50-50 chance of winning with a strong candidate. Together with Maryland, Minnesota and New Jersey, and possibly Michigan, Nebraska and Washington, we could be competitive in enough states with Democratic seats to possibly get to 60, if things shift to our favor.

Earlier this year, the Democrats were thinking they had enough pick-up opportunities to possibly take-over the Senate. Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Missouri, Ohio, and ... here's where they get a bit desparate ... Arizona? Nevada?

Well, recent polls indicate the Arizona and Nevada are off the table. Therefore, at this point, I don't think the Democrats have any hope of taking the Senate. Considering our pick-up opportunities, our chances are now looking at least as good as theirs for a net pick-up.

Tommy T is pro illegal imigration, here's why:
Thursday, December 27, 2001
By Steven Milloy
Last week, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson recognized National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day as he "encouraged the nation to take the time to remember the millions of homeless individuals who don’t have a warm bed, a nutritious meal, or a family to go home to this holiday."

Although the day has been marked by homeless activists since 1990, this is the first time the federal government has paid its respects. Even the bleeding heart Clinton administration never recognized it.

This recognition only seems like compassionate conservatism on crack. There is another explanation—albeit a pathetic one.

Secretary Thompson’s announcement comes on the heels of the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s 27-city survey on hunger and homelessness.

The survey reported "hunger and homelessness rose sharply in major Americans cities over the last year." Requests for emergency food assistance climbed an average of 23 percent and requests for emergency shelter increased an average of 13 percent, according to the report.

The Bushies, however, should take a closer look at the Conference of Mayors’ report and homelessness before they debase society with a "Memorial Day" for crack heads, the lazy, the mentally ill and those down on their luck.

I think so too--I don't see him running for Governor again.

There's no way we're going to give Kohl a freebie. Not after the last few elections being razor-thin.

And I know this'll tick off a few people here, but I truly believe Walker's drop-out is going to help us more than hinder. It means that (at least on the surface) we're a united front for Doyle and his special interest complex to take on.

Having a primary would have killed both Republican candidates and would have for all intents and purposes guaranteed Doyle a very easy victory in November.

Plus, I find it hard to believe the RINOs in the party engineered Walker's bow-out. It's because Walker couldn't meet the viability goal his campaign set at the end of March. And the polls at the time showed Doyle's lead over Walker outside the margin of error.

Thus Walker dropped out not because of RINO pressure, but the fact that he couldn't match Doyle in fundraising and the polls showed Green to be a stronger candidate to oust Doyle. And much of what he had would have been spent in a bloody primary that would have killed Walker and crippled Green--which in turn would give us four more years.

Now don't get me wrong--and as I've said before, I think Walker's a very great guy and has a solid political future. Unfortunately, it isn't his turn yet for the Governor's Mansion.

But the real test will be if Green can serve as a true Conservative while Governor. I believe he can--however, politics does have a strange habit of changing people.

"It means that (at least on the surface) we're a united front for Doyle and his special interest complex to take on."

You won't tick me off with that statement. If the money was behind Green, that's where the sentiment lies. Avoiding a primary was key, and I've said so in earlier posts. Walker was a Class Act. This is hardly the last we've heard from him. He'll very likely Govern us one day. If we work to make it so. :)

"But the real test will be if Green can serve as a true Conservative while Governor."

If we start now, and keep on him, maybe we can keep him from going over to "the dark side." I'm already signed up for the phone banks and mass mailings. Glad to help. :)

There is no way Tommy is going to comeback to run for Gov. He's either going to announce he is not running for anything or else he's going to run for Kohl's seat. Going for a Senate seat after being Gov and a member of a cabnet is a step down, but Tommy is a Republican. He is a team player.

He is the only man who could beat Kohl and he is needed in the US Senate. This could be a blockbuster.

My bet is he's running for POTUS.

Wish he'd knock of Kohl instead.

I sure as hell hope that Tommy does NOT run for Governor again and sabotages Mark Green's campaign (pulling a Van Hilleary). He IS however cordially invited to take out that old rich twit Kohl. It's outrageous that there has only been "1" Republican Senator in WI since after Joe McCarthy's death in 1957.

I'm just so disappointed that Walker pulled out, and I can't forgive the RINOs of our Party who conspired to make that happen.

Yep, just like they're doing to Katherine Harris in FL.

He sure as hell better run for Senate. It would be terribly egotistical for him to run for Governor again at this point.

How likely do you find the idea that we might lose control of the House and gain near close to 60 votes in the Senate?

Whatever happens, I see gains in the Senate, and moderate losses in the House.

Careful what you wish for. Doyle has been cutting state employees, and, from where I sit, it appears he's replacing every 2 employees with 3 contractors.

Securing our Borders –

For years, America’s immigration policies and laws have shown a serious need for change. Mark Green has cosponsored legislation to substantially transform the way our federal law enforcement and immigration agencies work through the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (H.R. 5005, signed by President Bush on 11/25/2002). He also supported the USA PATRIOT Act, which tightens immigration laws to help prevent terrorists from entering the country. (H.R. 3162, signed by President Bush on 10/26/2001)

(That's all I could find for now.)

This would be a Mississippi-Thang.
